US Trade Panel OKs China Furniture Duties
US Trade Panel OKs China Furniture Duties

Jan. 9 — By Doug Palmer

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. panel gave preliminary approval on Friday to import duties on more than $1 billion of wooden bedroom furniture from China in what Beijing has called the largest U.S. anti-dumping case yet against its goods.

The U.S. International Trade Commission said there was a reasonable indication that low-priced imports from China were harming domestic furniture makers.

A group of 27 U.S. companies want duties ranging from 158 percent to 441 percent to offset what they say is "dumping" by Chinese competitors.

Beijing has warned that approval of the steep duties would have "negative effects on normal-U.S.-Sino trade."

1. Im confused.. are they dumping furniture here that american companies
contract for them to make? Most of the well known furniture makers have sent their jobs offshore.

If what I say is true..isnt it absurd?

2. Exactly, very little furniture is made in the US anymore. This is Hollow.
Nothing more than a cheap attempt to make the non-North Carolina folks think that this will help US Manufacturing. Living here in NC, it's a myth that we are the "Furniture Capital of the World" in manufacturing. Maybe in selling it, but not manufacturing.
