California Draft Gore Halts Activities
Source: Earth Times

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Organizers of a California Draft Gore, a grassroots statewide campaign to put Al Gore's name on the California presidential primary ballot announced today that it is halting its activities.

"We have recently received a communication from a member of Al Gore's staff discouraging any efforts to put Al Gore's name on the primary ballot," stated Roy Gayhart, organizer for the statewide campaign. "Accordingly, effectively immediately, we have ceased our signature collection and related fund raising activities."

More than 1,000 Californians had volunteered to collect signatures ballot across the state to qualify Al Gore's name to be placed on the February 5, 2008 presidential primary. The California Election Code allows for a candidate's name to be placed on the ballot if at least 500 registered Democrats' signatures are obtained from each of the state's congressional districts during the period from October 8th until December 4th.

"We were doing well collecting signatures in the urban districts and were behind in some of the rural districts," said Gayhart. "We had raised money to hire professional petition circulators to help us close out the rural districts when we received the communication. With three weeks to go, we were confident of succeeding."

8. There, there.
I am a little sad, too. We are liberated to seriously and whole-heartedly look at our other options.

11. What Other Options?
What is left is the unpalatable and unelectable.

Do we learn to love Hillary and the Iraq war?
Do we join Obama in throwing gays under the bus?

I suppose I'll vote for Kucinich, though he hasn't got a chance.

13. Kucinich is my man,
but, I think Edwards is our best choice to win the Presidency and work for the People. He wants to invest in the Country and has a big vision for Our future.

I am with you on Hillary and Obama.

6. It was obvious to anyone who read The Assault on Reason
and frankly, knowing what he (and others) know about what's likely to happen over the next 5 years, it probably a very rational decision.

10. It is interesting that over six hours after the announcement
http://www.draftgore.com/ stiil has no mention of the fact that they were told to stop. Same thing goes for http://www.algore.org/ and http://www.americaforgore.org/ .

12. Finally!
It has been astonishing to me that the same people who claim to have so much admiration and respect for Al Gore also think he should do what they tell him.

They have persisted against all reason in trying to force him into a political race he does not want, but they don't trust his judgement to make up his own mind as to how to proceed with his mission to save the planet.

It's been just baffling and I hope that his supporters will now begin respecting the path Gore himself has chosen. He knows exactly what he's doing and you may be sure he has very sound reasons for doing it.

18. So true!
I hope ALL our candidates will publicly commit to working closely with Al Gore and taking his expert advice to heart.

That way, no matter who our nominee is, we are assured that Gore will be playing a prominent role in the new Democratic administration, as free as possible from any political encumbrances, with the full support and backing of the new President.

15. Hope can make you despair and it can make you crazy
So it's finally a relief to know for sure, disappointing though it may be. Now to move on to grief for our Constitution and finally acceptance that we must find another way.

20. All about ABC for the primary, I guess.
Leaning heavily towards Edwards or Obama. God forgive me, but I just don't think Kucinich has a chance. He has a better chance than times past but mainstream America believes their damned news channels too much.

22. Not true.
Wait to hear fro Al Gore's own mouth. Maybe the Clinton campaign paid someone off big time, as they've been known to do. What's wrong with submitting the petitions for California's ballots to place Gore' name as Democratic candidate? We still should continue the Draft Gore movement. Nothing to lose.
