Sanford (SC) offers budget
http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/7667347.htm

If you are a South Carolina resident you MUST read this and the accompanying articles and documents. Not good.

Gov. Mark Sanford proposes consolidating 15 state agencies and eliminating two USC branch campuses in his proposed state budget for next fiscal year.

Sanford wants to lower thenumber of agencies from 87 to 72 and create mega-agencies overseeing health and the environment. He also proposes phasing out USC Union and USC Salkehatchie over three years.

Department of Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum said she has concerns about the budget. Tops is that it raises per-pupil spending to $1,810, about $70 higher than today but still $500 less than the law recommends.

The budget also reshapes the department, not only making Tenenbaum’s position unelected but also lowering the amount of money for teacher training.

The Sanford budget would:

• Close the Bull Street hospital of the Department of Mental Health

• Privatize the management of state golf courses, cabins and other park services

snip

• Cut Clemson University’s extension programs, including some extension offices

and so many more atrocities.
