Richardson: I'll have troops home by 2009, top three won't

DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) — Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson said Saturday that he differs from the leading candidates on one key issue: how the U.S. ends the war in Iraq.

Speaking to approximately 9,000 Iowa Democrats at the Iowa Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Des Moines, the New Mexico governor said, "The leading candidates are talking about keeping troops until 2013. Here's my position–I will bring troops back within one year."

Richardson said he'd do it in part by using a Muslim peacekeeping force and diplomacy.

But in his prepared remarks–sent to the media by the campaign almost simultaneously–Richardson went even further than he did in front of the crowd and called out the leading candidates by name.

"Barack , Hillary , and John were asked to pledge to have all of our troops out of Iraq by 2013, and they refused to do so. I have made that pledge," Richardson said in the statement.

3. Sheesh, I hope Bill manages to pull to the front...
of the pack. He's my #1 choice. #2 Obama, #3 Kucinich.

I really don't want to be brought to having to vote for Hillary or Edwards, since those slime buckets saw fit to vote to let Bush invade Iraq.

7. I've got a better plan...
Blow the equipment/installations in place, load the troops on an airlift, and get the fuck out.... today.

8. While I like what Richardson is saying,
He can't possibly have the troops home by 2009 as the next president won't be sworn in until January 2009. - I imagine when he says he'll have them home in a year, he means in the first year of his administration which would get the troops home by 2010 and that's still a lot better than what the top three are saying.

10. Yep. That talking point needs updating.
Now ask him whether he supports impeaching the Administration that mired us there--or if maybe bringing the troops home isn't quite so time-critical as he's letting on?
