Talks on missile shield in final stages (Cdn / US - Globe and Mail)

'Ottawa — Canada is entering into final negotiations on joining the controversial U.S.-built anti-missile shield without guarantees that the project will never lead to placing weapons in space.

Instead, Canada and the United States have decided to hold talks on current plans to create a land- and sea-based system, while agreeing that any decision on weapons in space is more than a decade away.

In the meantime, Canada will remain opposed to weapons in space, while the United States will pursue development of a new generation of space-based weapons.'

What do other DUers think on this story? For me, I see it as a huge cost with little likelihood of being used. I see it as the militarization of space. Who is it defending us from?

1. Man on Moon.. Man on Mars...

It's not a question of "Who will it defend you from"...

It's rather "Who will place those weapons first so that nobody else can place them"...

Whereever (Wo)Man goes it will bring its weapons along...

Actually there are treaties that regulate that noody owns the Orbit or the Moon or anything in Space... but that does not keep you from DOMINATING it... first come first serve....

I'm awaiting the announcement for that NASA new space program..

2. Do you think it's wise that any one power dominates space?
