FBI: Al Qaeda May Strike U.S. Shopping Malls in LA, Chicago
Source: ABC

The FBI is warning that al Qaeda may be preparing a series of holiday attacks on U.S. shopping malls in Los Angeles and Chicago, according to an intelligence bulletin distributed to law enforcement authorities across the country this morning.

The alert said al Qaeda "hoped to disrupt the U.S. economy and has been planning the attack for the past two years."

Law enforcement officials tell ABCNews.com that the FBI received the information in late September and declassified it yesterday for wide distribution.

The alert, like similar FBI and Department of Homeland Security terror alerts issued over the past five years at holiday times, raised questions about the credibility of the information.

Boo!

Seriously, hasn't this been an urban legend floating around since the days after 9/11?

With gasoline & heating oil prices I sure can't afford to go to the mall. Terrorists may find them mostly empty.

46. I think you've got it! DING! DING!! DING!!!
I'll bet even now, retailers are busy trying to figure out how they're going to salvage this holiday season. Gas prices, home heating oil costs, tighter credit, a dollar that's dropping faster than a rock, a backlash against purchasing goods made in China, and falling consumer confidence are all blending together for a perfect storm.

This is just an old idea of KKKarl Rove's they're still using to try to divert attention from the real reasons: BUSH'S ECONOMY SUCKS. We're being ripped of by Bushco, and our Congress isn't doing anything to stop it.

"The alert, like similar FBI and Department of Homeland Security terror alerts issued over the past five years at holiday times, raised questions about the credibility of the information."

They've been doing this every freaking year.

Just another one for KO to add to his "something bad happens to BushCo, a terror warning is released" string of hits...

But I doubt anybody with half a brain will buy it.

That just leaves Bush supporters and Mr. Bush himself.

50. Well, they want an excuse to go into Iran...
I dunno, maybe I am paranoid (who wouldn't be after the last 8 years?) but I have got to say that I have wondered what they were gonna dream up to get us into Iran. I would hope to hell I am wrong--but if you think 9/11 was allowed to happen you have got to wonder what they will do next. Going after the malls during the holiday shopping season would sure as hell piss off a bunch of people...

I am not a mall person anyway, but there are a LOT of people in this country that are.

If there will be an attack then for crips sake lets have a few and get it the hell over with . I am so sick of these warnings and besides I have not one red cent to go shopping anyway .

Nothing makes sense anymore and new shiney things are not going to make things make sense .

We will do what we have done for years now , even though we are not religous we will hope for that old time holiday spirit that people used to display even though it is pretty much dead around here lately .

68. 11.11. at 11:11 am...
is the start of "fool's season" in Germany...

(culminating in the German carnival in February,
probably best known for the rather political/
satirical touch of the festivities in the big cities
along the Rhine.
Mostly to dumb to be fun.
But then... that could be said of many things nowadays.

fitting. :)
