1. I think the appropriate terminology is "Martial Law"
:scared: Yes, I lived under it for six weeks in the country of Singapore. I was only 6 y.o. but I remember some experiences during this brief period will haunt my psyche until my dying day. :(

Yes, loose nukes in Pakistan are of REAL concern. However, WE, in the USA are only one natural disaster and/or stock market crash away so it may be a good time to KNOW what we'll be facing as A Nation if/when President Cheney declares Martial Law. :scared:

Martial law is defined as: military rule or authority imposed on a civilian population when the civil authorities cannot maintain law and order, as in a time of war or during an emergency.

* Get informed and stay informed.
* Understand martial law can be a temporary crisis or an extended one.
* In extreme cases the shape of a whole nation can change.
* Declaration of martial law means your rights are suspended and it is government by decree.
* Your constitutional rights may no longer apply. This could mean a state of National Emergency.
* People can be arrested and imprisoned indefinitely without charges.

2. BBC News reports, "...can't allow country to commit suicide..."
Edited on Sat Nov-03-07 11:08 PM by upi402
Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has defended his decision to declare emergency rule, saying he could not allow the country to commit suicide.
In a televised address he said Pakistan had reached a crisis brought about by militant violence and a judiciary which had paralysed the government.

The chief justice has been replaced and the Supreme Court surrounded by troops.
