Bush Polls Well Among Hispanic Voters
By WILL LESTER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush starts this election year in a relatively strong position among Hispanics, who reacted favorably to the capture of Saddam Hussein, according to poll results released Thursday.

More than half, 54 percent, in the poll done for the Pew Hispanic Center in early January, said they think the president is doing a good job.

Almost four in 10, 37 percent, said they would like to see President Bush re-elected. Less than half in the poll, 47 percent, said they would prefer that a Democratic candidate win the election.

Those results are significantly better for Bush than in a poll taken by the same group right before the capture of Saddam.

1. How many times have we heard this before?
He didn't win them in 2000 and he won't win them in 2004.

Where this poll was conducted. In S.W. Florida where I live almost all Hispanics I know can't stand him or his brother.

4. However,...
...once the pollster removed the barrel of the 38 from the nostrils of the 'pollees', the numbers returned to around previous poll results.

Sheesh.

7. hmmm, 37% = "almost 4 in 10" for the re-elect
but the 47% who prefer a Dem = "less than half"

8. Interesting ...
"Almost four in 10, 37 percent, said they would like to see President Bush re-elected. Less than half in the poll, 47 percent, said they would prefer that a Democratic candidate win the election."

Why didn't they say "Almost half, 47 percent, said they would prefer that a Democratic candidate win the election while less than four in 10, only 37% said they would like to see bush* reselected?" Doesn't seem like "polling well" to me!

His approval rating among Hispanics is 54 percent, yet just 37 percent support his "re-election"? That's a pretty large gap.

Edit: I just read the whole article. Only a quarter supported his re-election in December, so this is an increase. But I imagine it'll wear off, if it's related to the Saddam capture.

10. Does anyone see the slant when they talk about the numbers?
and the way they worded it. 37% would like to see him re-(s)elected. ALMOST 4 IN 10 (less than 1/2)

LESS THAN HALF 47% would prefer a democrat win.

Is it me or does anyone else see the slant on wording when it comes to the numbers? When it is a good number for * it is MORE, when it is a bad number it is LESS THAN

12. yep, they play that "half full/half empty" bullshit
it was done earlier in a poll about Bush and Dean, saying Bush maintains a 'commanding lead' or some such shit, because he had 3-4% over Dean

13. His numbers must be down
across the board since his approval rating is flashed across the screen daily as supposedly so high. Democrats must be kicking butts in the real polls so I guess they are running scared and are simply showing some compassionate conservatism about now.

14. This is a perfect example of Polling Bias.
The 37% represent those who would re-elect, not a very good number for the Chimp. Even worse is the 47% rating of a vote toward the Dem opponent. The approval rating of 54% is just that, an approval rating. Thats like saying, I approve of my boss at my job, but if at work you had a chance to vote against your boss for someone else, would it still be the same person? The media spin on this is typical Rove. He sets the tone on how they should act.-----Remember, if you can take out Rove, (Plame Leak, hopefully) you take out the Chimp.

Florida houses a lot of rabidly conservative Latinos/Hispanics.

Exactly: the Cuban expats.

Remember Elian? If you've followed that mad soap opera, you've seen a few of them parade and screech around.
