China bars toys export from south factories

Beijing, Nov 01: More than 700 toy factories in southern China have had their export licences revoked or suspended following inspections triggered by the spate of product recalls overseas, state press said Thursday.

Hundreds of other factories in Guangdong province, which is the nation's biggest toy exporting base, have been ordered to renovate their facilities or improve product quality, a newspaper said, citing local officials.

Out of the 1,726 inspected, almost 85 percent of Guangdong's total number of toy factories with export licences, 1,454 were found to be at fault in some way, according to the province's quality supervision administration.

The administration reportedly sent 200,000 officials on a province wide inspection of all products made for domestic and overseas markets, including medicines and foods, as well as toys.
