Report: Poland may pull out of Iraq
Source: Associated Press

WARSAW, Poland - Polish Prime Minister-designate Donald Tusk said his future government would seek to end the nation's military mission in Iraq next year, according to an interview published Wednesday.

Poland, a staunch U.S. ally, sent combat troops to the 2003 war in Iraq and still has some 900 soldiers stationed in the southeast, despite public displeasure with the mission. Polish troops now primarily train Iraqi forces and renovate schools and hospitals.

"We want to finish the mission in this form in 2008," Tusk was quoted as saying by the daily Polska. He did not elaborate.

A survey released Wednesday by the CBOS institute found that 81 percent of Poles oppose the military mission in Iraq. The poll of 1,385 adults, conducted Oct. 10-14, gave a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

8. Congratulations!
I never understood, why the polish people with their great history (fiercely fighting and almost winning against the Nazis and fighting against Stalinism) took part in this Nazi-like war against Iraq. I guess it was due to the fact that they were governed by a very conservative party and we all know that politicians with this sort of mindset are not able to act responsibly.

12. no, Poland went against their guts to support the US
because Polish Americans and the CIA supported them during the hard days.
Change of mind now is because they got almost nothing in return from the US and almost all aid comes from the EU.
Also, Poles still need visa to enter US while most of "old" Europe does not. They feel very strongly about this.

19. It's more like politicos with this sort of mindset are more than able
to take the "few" billions "being generously offered" to them and "secretly" stick a few "diplomatic briefcases" in secret lockers under Switzerland's Geneva International Airport's landing lanes (same place where Marcos "hid" 15 billions in gold bars).

For short, it's called "bribery" and... since the USD is "lacking demand" these days, there's like not too much "incentive" to take in more (increasingly worthless paper).

18. Tells a lot about the quality of Polish government
If they went against the wish of 81% of their citizens.
