Code Pink Punks 'Politico' in Blackwater Hoax
Source: Editors & Publishers

NEW YORK With all of the news about Blackwater USA's problems, it wasn't a surprise that a fake story about the company creating a "Department of Corporate Integrity" would make it on to several valid news sites.

CBS News and Politico.com were among the victims of the fraud, reportedly perpetuated by Code Pink, according to Politico, which posted a correction today. CBS reprinted a Politico story on its site.

"In this business, you sometimes come across news items and think, 'You couldn't make that stuff up.' Well, sometimes you can," Politico reported in its note. "Code Pink today pulled off a hoax that pulled in Politico and a number of other news outlets when it ginned up a fake release, saying that Blackwater USA was creating a new 'Department of Corporate Integrity' that would put the 'mercy back in mercenary.' That should have been a tip off."

2. Good on Code Pink!!!! The question is how anyone could believe a story with integrity and
Blackwater in the same sentence.

3. This is very indicative of the modern media
all you have to do is get the story out there and everyone just assumes it is true and runs with it.

7. 'mercy back in mercenary.' That should have been a tip off."

Yeah, Blackwater, et. al. other mercenary contractors, have been tear assing around Iraq with ZERO oversight since the invasion ... I wouldn't doubt that many Iraqi natives NOT "on the take" from General Peaches would just love to give them more and more "rose petal parades" in remembrance of the hell hole that they've helped create. :(

11. It is a mistake to use this tactic ....
Allowing this to occur will create doubt in future interactions with Code Pink .... They should never compromise their own integrity, no matter how attractive the ruse ....

A blunder, I believe ...

12. I'm not sure it was a mistake.
It exposed a major flaw in today's MSM.
No research, no fact-checking, just print whatever you get.

I don't think this compromised Code Pink's integrity.
They're kinda known for being out there and in-your-face, aren't they?
They don't really play "polite" political games. :)

As for Blackwater, ugh.
"'We do some silly things, but we didn't do that,' Anne Tyrrell, a spokesperson for Blackwater USA, told Politico."

Yes, yes. A department that promotes integrity WOULD be silly, wouldn't it?
Sheesh.

19. I agree ... I've had three letters published in a local newspaper
under two fake names ... one of them the real name of a RW radio jock ... and his home address ...

And the newspaper's policy is that you have to supply your name, address and phone number so that they can verify your letter. I've never been called for verification ...

15. So now it is Code Pinks fault that Politico decided to pick up the story?
Code Pink wrote a satire story. How is it now Code Pinks fault that Politico fakes being a news site and takes a satire piece and runs it as real news?

13. LOL, perfect, absolutely perfect!
Shows quite clearly what we all know, the media simply regurgitates what it is handed, no research or investigation needed anymore. Integrity in the mainstream media is "quaint", to use gonzales term in his reference to the Geneva Conventions.
