Obama says he doesn't need Gore's help
Source: AP

DOVER, N.H. - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama says Al Gore would play a role in his administration, but he doesn't need help from the former vice president in getting to the Oval Office.

After listening to Obama address a crowded community center, a voter asked him to consider naming Gore as his running mate before the nomination is decided "as a way to take the wind out of Hillary's sails."

The voter even proposed a campaign slogan: "Obama and Gore: Experience and Youth. Obama and Gore: Wisdom and Truth."

Not so fast, came Obama's reply.

Sen. Obama, D-Ill., said Gore would be involved in his administration in a "very senior capacity," but joked: "I will also be honest with you: having won the Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar, being vice president again would probably be a step down for him."

1. I doubt Gore would touch him with a ten foot pole after this week!!
Gore had a good GLBT following. Obama probably won't have any by the end of the month.

2. This is a very misleading subject line
and, yes...I know it's a direct quote from AP, but it's still a misdirection headline to an otherwise good article.

12. Don't do that. Writers of articles do NOT write the headlines. NT

wrote the headline.

17. Well.... It worked
Here's the reply she sent me:

Thanks for pointing that out. The headline I submitted was just: "Obama touts ability to end gridlock, withstand attacks"
The Gore part got added by an editor in Washington. I'll try to fix it.

3. After reading the article, I HATE the title.
It sounds like Obama was dissing Gore, but he was responding to a question and actually said some nice things about Gore.

6. What the hell is with the AP's headline??
He doesn't even say that!! In fact, it's not even implied by his statements.

7. I hate when they do crappy headlines like this
I liked the Osama/Obama part:

"In his answer, Obama also responded to Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who said Wednesday that he'd made a slip of the tongue a day earlier when he said Obama, instead of Osama bin Laden, had urged terrorists to unite in Iraq.

"I think when Romney starts saying this stuff sometimes it may be honest mistakes, sometimes not. You don't know," Obama said.

He took a lighter tone when another questioner asked him to describe the differences between himself and bin Laden.

"Mitt Romney's been very confused about this," Obama said. "I have a lot of trouble growing a beard. I don't have a lot of facial hair, that's a good place to start. He lives in a cave.""

9. I'll bet Hillary's people are still reading the article....
....and wondering if this is serious. Because even though Obama's not on my list, an Obama/Gore ticket would throw things into a tizzy. The DLC would go into meltdown.

- Oh, Rahm! Could it be?!?!?!

They've got a catchy slogan too! :yoiks:

19. I am sorry, but holy freaking hell. I cannot believe that Obama would consider
himself to be worthy to President with Gore as his VP. That is some serious freaking hubris.

He made a joke on Letterman about Hillary being his VP - and that sounds reasonable (if unfortunate) to me -- but thinking that he could possibly be President with Gore as his VP - that ain't funny.

:grr:

Someone asked him that question. Obama never suggested Gore as a VP.

21. I think he should've answered the voter's question in another, more humble way...
"If Gore decides to run and asks me to be his VP I would seriously, seriously consider that offer. I admire him tremendously and was wishing in 2004 that he would run." -- He should've never played along.

Yes - I did read past the headline.

28. Yes, I did. The first line clearly states:
" Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama says Al Gore would play a role in his administration, but he doesn't need help from the former vice president in getting to the Oval Office. "

The key part of the sentence here is "he doesn't need help from the vice president."....and I reply, 'yes he does need help.' He needs help from experienced people to bolster him because he clearly needs bolstering. The "not ready for prime time" potential nominee sides with religous right wingnuts who want to take away women's rights and other wingnuts who make disparaging remarks about gays.

Yes, Obama, if he wants the WH, needs help. And I hope he continues his arrogant streak because I don't want Gore giving him help.
