TULSA, Okla. — Oral Roberts returned to his namesake university Monday and denied the lurid accusations that have threatened to engulf the school, telling students and employees in a chapel service that "the devil is not going to steal ORU."

"There's been smoke in this city about this stuff for years," Richardson said.

The lawsuit and attached report accuses Richard Roberts and his wife, Lindsay, of lavishly spending university funds and improperly asking that students get involved in a local political race.

The lawsuit alleges that university funds covered home remodels and a $29,411 senior trip to the Bahamas for one of Roberts' daughters and says Lindsay Roberts sent scores of late-night text messages on university-issued cell phones to people described in the lawsuit as "underage males."

9. This is an old Oral gambit.

Back when my TV station used to run his show, after his disasterous "God will take me home" crap, Oral's show had a promo (which, thank God, we never ran.) In it, an announcer said "The media have had their say, now Oral Roberts speaks out!"

And Oral comes and says "I'm not going to be silenced, I'm going to keep preaching the good word of God!"

He denied many times more than three, but I swear I couldn't hear a cock crowing.

they need to be led, herded and watched over, even if it's only illusionary. Of course the "shepherds" demand that the flock be fleeced in return for this imaginary protection, but the sheep don't mind. They're completely satisfied with the hollow promise of everlasting life in return for their fleece and obedience.

The greatest scam ever perpetrated upon mankind and so few even take the time to give it a cursory examination. I can't figure it out either. :shrug:

13. Old Oklahoma joke about that praying hands statue

One day, the hands fell over and they were taking bids on restring it. Most of the contractors wanted tens of thousands of dollars and weeks to get the equipment in...but then a man stepped up and said he could do it for $150.25 and do it that day. "Okay, you're on!" Our dorm had a big banner in the hall "Send Oral to Heaven in '87"

Unbelievable that the school regents have allowed what has happened. Most locals have long suspected the family to be dipping into the school funds.

23. ORU students used to spend their weekends trying to "save" TU students

There were always a few ORU kids hanging outside the frat houses at the weekend campus parties when I was going there in the mid 80's. Seems like they were there every frigging weekend outside every house that was having a party trying to save us heathens...You could spot them a mile away since they were the only sober looking college students in sight!

I think ORU tried to open a hospital in Tulsa at one point but it failed miserably..ended up that the ER couldn't even take in any ambulances.
