Poll: Americans want fewer illegal immigrants in U.S.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Most Americans would like there to be fewer illegal immigrants in the country, but only three in 10 say all of them should be deported, a CNN Opinion Research poll said Wednesday.

Seven percent of those polled said they would like to see the number of illegal immigrants increase, 22 percent said they would like the number to remain the same, 16 percent want it decreased "a little" and 22 percent want it decreased "a lot," according to the poll of 1,212 adult Americans.

Blacks and whites differed over whether the number of illegal immigrants should be increased, with 14 percent of African-Americans saying it should, versus 3 percent of whites.

Nineteen percent of blacks said they thought all illegal immigrants should be removed from the country; 35 percent of whites said that.

Blacks and whites overwhelmingly oppose state governments issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, with 76 percent of blacks and 83 percent of whites taking that stance, the poll said.

1. This shouldn't be surprising.
Who really wants MORE illegal immigrants here? Even the most vocal supporters of illegal immigrant rights want eased immigration restrictions, not more illegals.

2. It's really unfair to LEGAL immigrants
The citizenship test has been made harder for them, while so many lawmakers want to make it easier for people who entered this country illegally to stay here.

Punish the innocent, coddle the criminals. That's the American way.

4. It is just not possible for the U.S. to fund two countries. We are fighting
an illegal and immoral war, spending like there is no tomorrow and then illegals want to come take what little we have left. It's just not fair to American tax payers, American workers, and to hospitals that are closing left and right because they cannot finance people who can't or won't pay their bills.

I'm not a racist. I'm not against "legal" immigration. The situation must be dealt with Fox fixing his own country's problems so his people won't have to sneak over here just to survive.

7. The 'problem' will solve itself
They are only in the US to make money and send it back home. In a few months, when the housing bubble is completely deflated, there won't be any work for them and they will quietly return home. Who wants to live in an overpriced country with no public transportation and Gestapo on every corner asking to see your papers?
