Obama says "I am the man" to address climate change
Source: Radio Iowa

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama warns that Americans must make financial sacrifices if the country is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Obama held a Sunday morning forum in Des Moines billed by his campaign as a discussion of the "role of faith in fighting global climate change." Obama talked briefly about his Christian faith and the Biblical call for stewardship of the Earth.

"Are you going to be the person to elevate this whole issue and put it out there before the entire country and lead us to true energy independence?" a man in the crowd asked Obama.

"I am the man," Obama responded...

1. Yeah, Gore doesn't have any knowledge of or interest in this area.

Sounds a bit presumptuous of Obama, but no politician would answer that question with a "No."

26. Try not to project
that Billery/Bullery Clinton will get the nomination. Thoughts become things.

3. I think..
that Al Gore is a few steps ahead of Obama. Or did Al
win the Nobel for something else? Or is Obama trying to
ride on Al's coat-tails?

8. Duh...
I know that.

I personally do not see any electee putting this issue as number
one on their agenda. For it to be addressed properly, it needs to
be the only thing on the plate. A president does not have this
option of devoting all of their time to one issue.

This is the hot button issue of the moment. Before Al won the
Nobel, the hot button issue was Iraq. It has changed and will
change again.

6. Financial sacrifices...? For an issue that is not even in the top ten?
Oh well, I suppose this is the type of stuff that causes Obama and the rest of the field to eat HRC's dust.

9. Wait until those coastal residents see their homes swallowed by rising sea levels
by then it will be too late to stop the effects of global warming. If there is any consolation, Jesusland will be the first one to swim with the fishes.

The Democratic party needs to compete in a respectful manner in Jesusland if we want to win.
If the message does not work in Jesusland, it needs work.

24. Competing in Jesusland
would involve ignoring the rights of GBLT Americans, pandering to anti-choice fanatics, and mixing church with state, just to name a few issues. No thanks. The Democrats will need the grassroots progressives and they're doing NOTHING to win our votes. In fact, they're doing the exact opposite by ignoring the issues that are vital to us and referring to us as the "loony left," the "nutroots" and calling us "political perfectionists."

> Financial sacrifices...? For an issue that is not even in the top ten?

Fuck the planet - the American way of life is not negotiable.

Silly me, I thought it was only the Cheneys of this world that had adopted
this creed, the greedy Republicans and their thick-as-pigshit supporters.

11. That's the one thing I cannot stand about him
How he shoves faith down everyone's throat. In any case, solving the climate crisis has more to do with science and funding the research to fix it than it does with religion. Or maybe we can pray it away? Okay, I know that's not what he meant. But the radical, religious right think there's no need to fix this problem because they'll all be raptures. I don't know who Obama is trying to convince with all his religious bullshit. Liberal Christians are already doing to vote for him if he's the nominee and he'll never get knuckledragger fundie vote anyway.

I guess I can see how people who see the world in such diametrical terms would dislike what Obama is saying.

If the price of saving the planet is letting in some evangelicals so damn be it.

something as critical to our survival as slowing climate change.

12. John Edwards received this today:

Friends of the Earth Action Endorses John Edwards

Friends of the Earth Action today endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards during a campaign event in New Hampshire. FoE Action President Brent Blackwelder also announced his organization will be running an independent campaign on Edwards' behalf in the Granite State.

This is a pretty big group - not to be discounted.

17. Now why would a black man running for US president feel even
the slightest bit desparate when confronting someone like HRC?

Are you serious?

Its an open question whether Joe-six-pack would vote for a black over a woman in the first place. Obama has to do everything he can to convince Joe he is the man.

money, it just won't line the pockets of the old fossil fuel industry-and therein is the reason the children of today will never see their 50th birthday.

25. Seems mixed up to me
The part about climate change and energy independence. Aren't these two different topics? Fight global warming. Become energy independent. Maybe I don't see how you fight global warming by becoming energy independent.
