EDWARDS GETS DESPERATELY NEEDED IOWA LABOR NOD
Source: NBC

At 5:30pm Monday ET in Iowa city, John Edwards will get SEIU-Iowa nod and the endorsement of other state affiliates, according to multiple sources. The endorsement, which the Edwards campaign refused to comment on, is key because it means that SEIU members and resources from other state organizations that endorse Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama (think Illinois and New York SEIU chapters) cannot help their respective Iowa campaigns, according to SEIU rules.

No campaign needed this organizational boost more than Edwards since he financially can't keep up with Clinton and Obama in Iowa.

58. republican looking for a dem candidate i can support
as a lifelong rep voter i am looking over the landscape of dem candidates in the hope of finding one i can support...the problem is that exept for denis kucinich they are all sold out to the neocon perpetual war strategy, hell bent on destroying their dreaded enemy...i mean israels dreaded enemies by enlisting american soldiers to die doing their dirty deeds....edwards cant separate himself from the neocons, he is commited to war in the middle east... he commited himself to the neocons at the herzliya conference in israel. i could care less how many liberal ideas they stand for ill support any dem candidate who has the moral backbone to stand up and get us out of the middle east.

62. If I can just jump in here and give you my 2 cents
Welcome, by the way! :hi:

If you will look at each of the democratic candidates' stand on the middle east issue, especially Iraq, they all have a plan to bring down the number for US troops there now - some completely and immediately, some more slowly with a plan to leave a small contingent to guard the embassy - and they each have plans on how to better run our Middle East policy by using more diplomatic means, talking to the leaders of other countries in the region and not just bullying the way Bush has done it.

They certainly don't agree on the way to do it, but be assured they all know we have to get out of Iraq and they do have a plan. Myself, as an Edwards' supporter, think his plan is the best and that he has the best chance of making it happen.

12. Just Watched Him On C-Span In NH Earlier Today & For The Life
of me can't understand WHY people don't get it?? THIS IS THE MAN! I'm so so very HAPPY for him and his family!

I could use so many adjectives to describe him, but those of us who have followed him for a long me KNOW all about him! But watching him today was simply "heart-warming" and he was so very gracious, and said up front, when I finish speaking I will GLADLY come down into the crowd and take ANY question you would like to ask of me!

AND HE DID!! America REALLY needs this man, the BIG GUYS just don't know it... and they are doing EVERYTHING in their power to stop him!!

It has nothing to do with his looks, he just oozes a certain kind of warmth, and ELIZABETH is such a compliment to him! When I see them, I think America, even if he does have money now, he readily states it, but he worked hard and EARNED it!! And any SANE person would try to go out and INVEST as wisely as possible!

I recall Hillary Clinton and her investments coming under fire a very long time ago, but you hear NOTHING now! And not a peep about ALL THE MONEY they've made since then!!

He is The One our country so desperately needs.
He is One of us.
He will fight for The People like no other.
The Media silencing him is his biggest hurdle,
because if The People hear him
there will be no stopping him.

63. THAT is it in a nutshell
Edited on Sun Oct-14-07 03:34 PM by Capn Sunshine
In '04 the SEIU did some fantastic work for us in the Dean Campaign in Iowa. The endorsement was cool. What was lacking was any significant pull-through at the caucus level. The top guys said one thing, the members voted another way. I think our numbers showed Kerry beat us in SEIU caucusgoers 37% to 26%.

There's a myth among Hillary's opponents that terrible vengeance befalls those who oppose her.

Congrats to Edwards. The SEIU is a very active union and would be a tremendous asset to him.

SHE'S NOT INEVITABLE.

Regret WHAT decision? She's NOT pro-labor. She still supports free trade, thinks there's positives to job offshoring and is a proponent of unbridled corporatism rather than an Opponent.

61. DEAL With Him?? Send In The Goons Or Something?? I THOUGHT
she was supposed to be a "candidate" NOT La Donna Corleone!

But then again, MONEY does get you "sticky fingas" and a LOT of friends in high places! Except maybe those "friends" come with their hands held out!

I'm pretty sure John Edwards doesn't run with that crowd, in fact I've heard THEY HATE him! And the only reason I can figure they would hate him is because he just might be someone who is the biggest threat! The polls don't mean much yet and I HAVE seen MSM shift ever so lightly AWAY from her. Of course, they think it's Obama and while I find Obama to be very decent, I just don't think he will go the distance this time. He may, and I can accept that, but Hillary Clinton simply SCARES me way too much, and I don't trust her anymore.

I am a firm believer when the FULL details of what Hillary is for, and what John is for get discussed - he will take 5 points easy from her.

Not only Hillary, but the GOP and the media are doing everything they can to insult and diminish the chances of Edwards. He is the most popular of the populist messaged candidates we have and you bet your sweet booty that JUST LIKE THEY DID IN '04 THEY ARE SCARED OF HIM AGAIN, EVEN MORE SO - he has honed his message and he has labor behind him.

55. He's been pre-emptively killed by a corporate smear campaign.
$400 haircuts, size of his house, etc.

The "hypocracy" angle of these stories seems familiar, doesn't it? Think...Kerry 2004 being branded as "sissy boy."

The new technique by the corporate media and their lapdogs is to attack candidates on their manhood and the lack of "good old boy" characteristics.

60. That's called "Corporate Installation in Both Parties".
The people WANT a candidate like Edwards, but all of the corporate dollars and media exposure are instead going to pro-Big Business HRC. You never hear or see hide nor hair of Edwards for a reason. Corporations don't WANT you to think about a populist message. With Hillary, it's win/win for them no matter what. She divides our voting base (ANOTHER thing Edwards has the advantage at - unity), they get the Repuke in. She wins the GE, business as usual. She goes against them and falls on her face, say hello to Jeb Bewsh 2012 (cue theme to Dynasty)!

I fear there's NEVER going to be a day where we're going to see a candidate with even a remote care for the labor of this country.

This country NEEDS a Pro-LABOR president.
Organized LABOR built the Middle Class.
It will be difficult to undo the damage inflicted by the Republicans and the DLC.

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.
