Giuliani: Bush Can Win New York in 2004
Jul 23, 1:43 PM EDT

By AMY WESTFELDT
Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK (AP) -- Former mayor Rudolph Giuliani urged Republicans to campaign hard in New York in 2004, arguing that President Bush has a good shot at winning the heavily Democratic state.

"New Yorkers like strong leaders," said Giuliani, asserting that Bush fit that description. "The president has a very good chance of winning New York" next year.

Opening the Republican National Committee's annual meeting in the city he once led, Giuliani made his case to GOP members. The prime speaking spot also gave Giuliani, who is weighing another run for political office, a chance to shine.

Four years ago, Bush basically conceded New York as Democrat Al Gore swept to victory. A Republican hasn't won a presidential election in New York since Ronald Reagan in 1984; Democrats outnumber Republicans 5-to-3 in New York state.

In other news, the Goobergunch urged Republicans to campaign hard in New York in 2004, arguing that pResident Smirky has no shot at winning the heavily Democratic state.

"The pResident has a very poor chance of winning New York" next year, said the Goobergunch. "However, I want him to waste his time. money like he did in California in 2000."

4. Exactly. They're laying down the propoganda now
So when/if the Chimp wins, they can say "Well, it's not REALLY a shocker, we've been saying he can win NY for some time..."

He doesn't have a chance in a fair election...

13. Yep. Creating the backstory.
This terrifies me.

Just as the recall effort in CA terrifies me.

Wake up, people! It's not good enough to have the ILLUSION of a democracy.

2. After smirk's treatment of the.....
...first responders in NYC, I don't see how he can win the overall election let alone New York state.

3. yeah, right
Between the dissing of first responders and the gutting of social programs he doesn't have a prayer-and this will surely be worse after the what will certainly be an exploitative and cringe-inducing convention in NYC.

15. If the people stay informed of this fact
He will be spending a lot of money there and CA to say he is gods gift to the U.S. This will sway some of the undecided, this will harden the resolve of the loyal. We need to educate these people, grass root this like Dean is doing. The Dem hopefuls are not going to match his money, so it is up to people like us to present, free of charge, some campaign time and advertising. Present a very well founded and logical argument, have your facts straight etc... Don't let his slick million dollar, 30 sec, mass produced lies for T.V. prime time fool them.

6. Neither Bush nor Giuliani will ever win in New York
Most people here treat Giuliani like a hypocrite for the way that he criticized Clinton over Clinton's personal life.

Barring that, he's full of hot air - but then again we knew that about Mr "Family Values my Ass" Guiliani!

9. There's a huge difference
between a "strong leader", and a swaggering bully who is also a coward. Bush falls in the latter category.

11. Then by that logic Democrats should campaign in Texas
2000

New York

Gore 60%
Bush 35%

Texas

Bush 59%
Gore 38%
