U.S. leaks 6B gallons of water a day
Source: UPI

DENVER, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. water systems lose about 6 billion gallons of water a day to leaks, The Christian Science Monitor reports.

The U.S. clean water infrastructure is getting older. The last great age of filling reservoirs and laying pipe was immediately after World War II, following two previous eras at the beginning of the 20th century and the 1920s.

"We're at a turning point when it comes to our water infrastructure," said Greg Kail, a spokesman for the Denver-based American Water Works Association. "Our generation has not experienced the cost of putting those pipes in the ground, and the end result is that water is going to be more expensive in the future. “

4. Here we still have lead pipes for incoming water
when the spring a leak, you have to call in a master plumber, because only they are certified to fix the leak with lead. My pipe leaks and I have had to deal with it the best I can. The owner before me put something on the leak and now to fix it, well.....I'm not sure it can be repaired at this point. To replace the incoming water pipe is $1500.00, which I don't have. I called the water department, because the leak is before the meter, they won't take care of it, unless I pay. So, all kinds of things are wrapped around it, and in the end, there is a plastic bottle connected to a hose that drips into the dry well.

That means the Bushies are going to be richer too...a lot richer! He knew what he was doing (insider information) when he bought those 100,000 acres of land in Uruguay next to the worlds largest fresh water aquifer.

8. We're fixing the water pipes over there so we don't have to fix them here
Just think of all the things we could be doing with that 600 Billion dollars instead of literally "blowing it up" in Iraq.

(and yes, I know we're not "fixing" a damn thing over there)

10. excellent article! thanks for posting
A lot of water shortages would disappear, if leaks could be fixed, and use could be more efficient. It's been found that even just installing water meters (and not actually charging more for water) can be effective, in showing people where the problems are.
