Horse slaughters taking place on the border
Source: San Antonio Express-News

CIUDAD JUÁREZ, Mexico — The American mare swung her head frantically when the door shut to the kill box, trapping her inside. A worker jabbed her in the back with a small knife — seven, eight, nine times.

Eyes wild, she lowered her head and raised it as the blade punctured her body around the withers, again and again.

At the 10th jab, she fell to the floor of this Mexican slaughterhouse, bloodied and paralyzed, but not yet dead.

She would lay there a good two minutes before being hoisted from a chained rear leg so her throat could be slit and she could bleed to death.

2. why do some have NO compassion? I'm sick with outrage!!
"The primitive procedure at the Ciudad Juárez plant now is the fate of thousands of exported U.S. horses since court rulings closed horse slaughter operations in the United States.

The roan mare was one of nearly 30,000 American horses shipped to Mexican processing plants so far this year, a 369 percent increase from the number recorded this time last year."

THERE AREN'T ENOUGH EXPLITIVES IN THE DICTIONARY TO EXPRESS MY HATRED OF THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS.

THIS IS TORTURE!!!

There's a long list responsible, but at least the end could have afforded a fucking bullet for the poor animals' brain.
There so much data proving that people who can kill in such a way can take human lives.

How could any reporter even watch this and not have stopped them to offered to pay for a loaded weapon ----- if the poor horses have to be killed for some people's table meat.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF all of 'em! I hate people!

Just more tears....

5. so what?
we're supposed to get up in arms about flicka but its ok to slaughter cows galore? though they sure should be using a more humane form of killing the critters.

6. The Chicago yards used tight one animal wide pens and a fellow with a sledge hammer - seems a bit
better than sticking a knife in them a dozen times.

With horses costing multi-thousands if you want one for the kids, why are these being killed? Granted the upkeep is a killer cost - but there are a lot of folks that would pay the upkeep if they could get the horse for free.

9. Cattle on federal lands
Wild horses compete for grazing area. Ranchers round them up and get rid of them, (see also wolves, cougars).

Yay cheap hamburgers!

7. Ummm ...
You advocate this happening to billions of other sentient beings that feel pain just as much as horses every time you fire up the grill. What's the big deal?

8. I think the big deal
is how inhumanely it is done. While I don't eat horse, I do not see why there is such an outrage to their slaughter for European sale. This outrage is what forced the outsourcing of this, but they should have a way to kill them quicker.

11. It is a big deal, and not just when Mexicans do it, and not just to horses
"Improperly stunned cattle can regain consciousness after they've been shackled and hoisted onto the overhead rail. In addition to kicking & thrashing as they hang unside down, they'd be blinking & stretching their necks from side to side & looking around really frantic. Allot of the times the stickers can't get a good bleed. Within seconds of being stuck the animals arrive at the head skinner who strip all the hide from the animals head. A lot of the time the skinner finds out the animal is still alive conscious when he slices the side of the head and it kicks wildly. If that happens the skinners strove a knife into the back of it's head and cut the spinal cord."

16. People need to stop eating meat.
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 10:43 AM by leftyladyfrommo
We don't need to eat meat. It is horrible for the animals. It is horrible for the environment.

And isn't this just like big business. They outlawed it here so we simply outsourced it.
