Daub (R-Ne) formally announces he'll run for Senate

Former Omaha Mayor Hal Daub, in an apparent nod to the political power of western Nebraska, formally started his U.S. Senate campaign this morning in Scottsbluff.


Former Omaha Mayor and U.S. Rep. Hal Daub, with wife Mary by his side, announces his bid for the U.S. Senate this morning at Western Nebraska Regional Airport in Scottsbluff.


Daub is widely known in Omaha but will need central and western Nebraska votes to claim the Republican Party's nomination next spring.

Western Nebraska's 3rd Congressional district, which is heavily populated with Republicans, will be especially important to Daub.

"Extending his appeal statewide will be his biggest challenge," said Loree Bykerk, a political scientist at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

It will be one or the other.

5. Nope. As far as I know the only dem out there on the Nebraska horizon

is Beniful Nelson.

6. I think he's a non-starter

although several people I've talked to think he's a shoe-in! I think it might be Brunning's to lose. As long as it's not Johanns! Sweet Jezzus I hate that guy. Either Kerrey or Kleeb will be competitive with any of these "stellar" candidates.
