Experts: Bin Laden Audio Message Likely Authentic

WASHINGTON -- Experts say an audiotape featuring a voice purported to be that of Osama bin Laden -- on which the speaker refers to the Dec. 13 capture of Saddam Hussein -- is "likely" authentic.


The Middle Eastern television network Al-Jazeera aired 14 minutes of the 47-minute tape on Sunday. On it, the speaker says the U.S.-led war in Iraq was the beginning of the "occupation" of Gulf states for their oil and called on Muslims to keep fighting a holy war in the Middle East.

The speaker urged Muslims to "continue the jihad to check the conspiracies that are hatched against the Islamic nation" and criticized leaders of Muslim nations for failing to support Palestinian resistance and not pressuring the United States on the Palestinian issue.

A CIA official speaking on condition of anonymity said that a technical analysis determined that the tape was likely an authentic audio message from bin Laden. A spokesman for President George W. Bush said the CIA and other appropriate intelligence authorities are analyzing the tape.

2. Everytime CIA makes news "stale" by waiting to say it is Osama

this time the Germans said it was Osama the same day - Jan 1 -

but the fact that Osama laughed at Bush and referred to the capture of Saddam as the "capture" of the "Bush/American creation, friend known as Saddam" was just too embarrassing -

so now on Jan 5, I am sure all the US media editors will not go back and pick up Saddam's put down of the idea that the "capture of Saddam" would have any effect on terrorist activity.

That just does not fit the storyline the media is trying to sell for Bush 04 election of Bush - the hero and protector from terrorism running against folks with little foreign policy experience.

it is in the CIA's interest to assume he is alive. Remember 6 months or so ago, when the CIA said, "Yep, that's him!" and the Swiss said, "Nope, not even close!"

I'm sure the Islamic terrorists call Al Queada existed and continue to do somethings ... but without better tape or Video evidence - I'm in the OBL bit it in Dec 2001 camp.
