Iranian Nuclear Pledges Complicate President Bush's U.N. Strategy
By Thomas Omestad
Posted September 5, 2007

As diplomats prepare for meetings at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna next week, new pledges by Iran to answer unresolved questions about its once clandestine nuclear program are complicating the Bush administration's strategy of ratcheting up pressure on Tehran.

U.S. diplomats have seized on the confirmation provided by an IAEA report finalized last week that Iran is continuing to enrich uranium and to build what would be a plutonium-making heavy-water reactor—in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions, as well as those of the IAEA's own board. However, the same report declared that Iran had made "a significant step forward" by agreeing to a work plan for addressing remaining issues about its nuclear facilities and capabilities. IAEA officials suggest that if Iran carries out its promises, outstanding questions could be answered by the end of this year.

Iran welcomed the report, contending that it showed U.S. accusations that it is pursuing nuclear weapons were groundless.

<snip>
Not surprisingly, administration officials poured doubt on the newly proffered cooperation from Tehran. "For the most part, Iran has made only promises," said Gregory Schulte, the U.S. ambassador to the IAEA. In Washington, officials insisted the centerpiece of the report was that it verified that Iran's defiance was continuing.

What Nukes? Oh, THOSE Nukes ...

"A U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber mistakenly loaded with five nuclear warheads flew from Minot Air Force Base, N.D, to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., on Aug. 30, resulting in an Air Force-wide investigation," Defense News reports:
The B-52 was loaded with Advanced Cruise Missiles (pictured), part of a Defense Department effort to decommission 400 of the ACMs. But the nuclear warheads should have been removed at Minot before being transported to Barksdale, the officers said. The missiles were mounted onto the pylons of the bomber’s wings. ... Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Ed Thomas said the transfer was safely conducted and the weapons were in Air Force custody and control at all times. However, the mistake was not discovered until the B-52 landed at Barskdale, which left the warheads unaccounted for during the approximately 3 1/2 hour flight between the two bases, the officers said.

4. Iran between iraq and hard place
Iran was one of the first countries to offer help to the United States following 9/11. Why has the United States failed to implement serious diplomatic efforts with Iran it is so much healthier for the entire world.

I am sticking to my guns that this whole war on error is just one big F$KKKING oil grab starting with the bush administration green lighting the 9/11 attacks.

6. muslems
Given the Iranian offer on this, I can't help but think that it is not taken for serious because they are muslems (not 5* hotel drinking princes from Arabia but devote non AQ muslems).
I personally don't believe in god and distrust all who hear his voice but I don't understand why their offer is not seriously considered given the alternative: US bombs Iran: 100,000 iranians deaths. Iran retaliates on US bases in the mid-east: 10,000 US GIs dead. Where is the logic?
