Bush warns Iran over insurgents
Source: BBC

US President George W Bush has warned Iran to stop supporting the militants fighting against the US in Iraq.

In a speech to US war veterans in Reno, Nevada, Mr Bush renewed charges that Tehran has provided training and weapons for extremists in Iraq.

"The Iranian regime must halt these actions," he said.

...
"I have authorised our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran's murderous activities," he said.

1. Stopping that support would free up more US troops to attack Iran.
They're not quite that stupid.

2. And we know how much Mr. Bush despises "murderous activities"
Especially when it involves engaging in them in other people's countries.

We also know how accurate and objective Mr. Bush's intelligence is too...

3. Wait!!! Don't most of the insurgents fighting in Iraq come from Saudi Arabia?
Most foreign fighters and suicide bombers in Iraq come from Saudi Arabia, despite attempts by US officials to portray Syria and Iran as the main culprits of violence, a US newspaper reported Sunday.

Citing an unnamed senior US military officer and Iraqi lawmakers, the Los Angeles Times newspaper said about 45 percent of all foreign militants targeting US troops and Iraqi security forces were from Saudi Arabia, 15 percent from Syria and Lebanon, and 10 percent from North Africa

Official US military figures made available to The Times also show that nearly half of the 135 foreigners in US detention facilities in Iraq are Saudis, the report said.

Fighters from Saudi Arabia are thought to have carried out more suicide bombings than those of any other nationality, the paper said.

The senior US officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said 50 percent of all Saudi fighters in Iraq come as suicide bombers, The Times pointed out.

The situation has left the US military in the awkward position of battling an enemy whose top source of foreign fighters is a key ally that at best has not been able to prevent its citizens from undertaking bloody attacks in Iraq, and at worst shares complicity in sending extremists to commit attacks against US forces, Iraqi civilians and the Shiite-led government in Baghdad, the paper said.

Raw Story

Shouldn't Bush be warning the Saudis instead? I'm confused!...

When he visited Italy he gave PM Prodi a National Geographic atlas as a gift.
He should have kept it for himself!

4. Gee, it can never be actual IRAQIS who fight us, can it? Someone
else (AQ, Iran, Syria) ALWAYS has to be responsible for the violence. Because if it were Iraqis, you know, we might start to not like them very much, and maybe won't want to stay and help them WHILE they kill our troops, and maybe we won't care about all the threats regarding their slaughering each other in great numbers after we leave.

12. This whole thing
This whole thing has been about Iran right from the Start. That's who the Saudis and the Pakistanis are really afraid of, and apparently our government is actually working for the Saudis and the Pakistanis, not the Americans.

First was the Saudi-Pakistani provocation allowing BushCo to invade the Middle East via Afghanistan. Then the surrounding of the Persians by "coalition forces."

It's inevitable that we have to destroy Iran's government and military. Otherwise none of the money and lives we have spent in Afghanistan and Iraq can be justified.

Iran has been on our shit list for 30 years, and everybody knew invading Iraq would just be picking a fight with the Islamic Republic. Plus, what about all their Israeli overtures?

This thing has been set up for an Iran attack right from the start. As long as Iran is strong, the Pakistanis and the Saudis can never be comfortable. The Iranians are too much of a threat to BushCo's benefactors in the Gulf for him to pass up the chance to bomb them. If Congress doesn't see that and stop it it's because they're all traitors, too!

14. Bush Warns Of 'Holocaust' If Iran Gets Nukes
Source: Forbes

RENO (Thomson Financial) - US President George W Bush warned today that letting Iran acquire atomic weapons risked putting the Middle East 'under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust.'

'Iran's active pursuit of technology that could lead to nuclear weapons threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust,' he told a veterans group here.

Bush's speech to the American Legion aimed to convince a war-weary US public that the war in Iraq was the central front in the fight against what he described as the Sunni Muslim extremism of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network and the Shiite extremism fuelled by Iran.

'Iran's actions threaten the security of nations everywhere, and the United States is rallying friends and allies to isolate Iran's regime to impose economic sanctions. We will confront this danger before it is too late,' he said.
