Kucinich, in Maine, trumpets health care proposals
Source: Portland Press Herald

SOUTH PORTLAND — U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich touted universal health care proposals in Congress and in Maine during a meeting at a local union hall Sunday afternoon.

Kucinich, D-Ohio, spoke with about 30 supporters at the end of a weekend campaign visit.

A switch to single-payer universal health care would lift a heavy financial burden from the shoulders of families and business leaders, he said.

"Health care for profit is over. It's done," Kucinich told backers at the Teamsters hall on Thadeus Street.

1. The Elf Has My Vote
It really is very simple: I agree with him on every issue of importance to me.

Vote Elf in 08!

2. Kucinich may be relatively small in stature physically...

He has more courage and "guts" than just about any other politician on the national stage today. Despite all of the efforts to marginalize his campaign, trying mightily to convince everyone to ignore him and the issues he focuses on, his message is already resonating with many Democratic voters.

5. Kucinich/Legolas '08

The Elf is the only one I'm sending money to this election. I'll support other dems by helping at my local dem headquarters, but I have significantly less income than I did in '04, thanks to outsourcing. So my money goes to DK only.

Sadly, I wonder how many others are making less than they were in '04.

18. We give the DNC telephone solicitors an earful

every time they call. No way, baby. I'll help Dennis but that's it.

I'm sure they keep calling because we gave a lot to the DNC and the Kerry campaign in 2004. Won't be fooled again.

3. I love this guy
It just makes me sick that the media puts him on the back burner...over and over again. He's the ONLY candidate that is consistant on the major issues. He's just great.

11. Sounds like you've already given up.
Or you a supporter of one of the other candidates. Either way, if you don't join the fight against for profit health care, it's one fewer voice for wrenching the health care system from the for profits and the corps.

12. I Haven't Given Up...
...but I know a lot about the insurance industry and have some family members in healthcare.

These people aren't going to lose. They own the country. My brother's wife is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and he tells stories all the time about going to these conventions with older ladies who've been in the business for thirty-forty years, walking around with huge rocks on their fingers and prominent politicians on their arm.

Did you know that most nursing homes are owned by attorneys? Once again, we're talking about a group of people who are so powerful and so wealthy in a lot of these little towns that (literally) whatever they want, they get.

As I'm sitting here writing this, I have an old TiVo recording of the debate at Cooper Union between Mario Cuomo and Newt Gingrich earlier this year. Gingrich is insufferable as usual but even so, Cuomo comes across as a doddering old man who's past his prime.

I truly believe a lot of progressives will leave the United States in the next ten years. They'll have no choice.

...but you can't deny what's happening to us. One thousand people per day move to Florida, primarily from the northeast and the Rust Belt and while they're liable to turn Florida from red to pink over time, that's not gonna happen for a number of years.

Everyone knows that as people age (and our population is aging very rapidly right now) they become less amenable to change. The likelihood of our getting someone in the White House like Dennis Kucinich or Bernie Sanders is minimal at best.

I lived in Texas for almost ten years. I could take you places in the DFW Metroplex that are so young and so vibrant and so prosperous that it would scare you to death. There are similar stories in metropolitan Atlanta, Nashville, Raleigh...I could go on forever, but THESE are the people who will pick our future political leadership and they are NOT progressive or even liberal.

My wife and I are living in California now and I've told a lot of people who know us that California and possibly a few other west coast states should just secede and get it over with. The Republicans won both times this decade without carrying California and I'm willing to bet that will happen again in 2008. After reapportionment in 2010, it'll get worse because Ohio and Pennsylvania will each lose one Electoral vote and New York state will lose at least two or possibly three. These Electoral votes are headed one place: FLORIDA.

17. Yes, he needs to do exactly that, and

I suspect he will.

VOTE KUCINICH!!!

As Joe Bageant says, "Hell, there's no crime in being three feet tall."

Dennis is, of course, actually 5'6" which is taller than you have to be to enlist in the military, therefore it should be tall enough to be CINC.

I believe he's taller than Hillary Clinton. Nobody's talking about her height, why discriminate against short men? If men have to be tall to be president, why aren't women expected to be tall, too? The height thing is just ridiculous, applied to anyone.

Our "culture" is so obsessed with appearances. Lincoln could never get elected today, as homely and gawky as he was. Geneticists have speculated that he may have had Klinefelter Syndrome, based on his appearance. Most of our former presidents couldn't get elected today. Taft weighed over 300 pounds. Today he'd have had to undergo gastric bypass surgery to shape up for the campaign.
