Clinton vows boost to US health care

By HOLLY RAMER, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 6 minutes ago

LEBANON, N.H. - Hillary Rodham Clinton promised Thursday that as president she would improve health care quality by raising standards for providers, educating patients and requiring insurers to reward innovation.

While rivals Barack Obama and John Edwards have proposed detailed health care overhaul plans, Clinton is taking an incremental approach. She started with a speech in June on reducing costs, followed by Thursday's address on quality, and will outline her plan for universal health care coverage next month.

"My order here is deliberate," said Clinton, a New York senator. "In order to forge a consensus on universal health care, we need to assure people that they will get the quality they expect at a cost they can afford."

"Too often, and in too many places, our health care system hurts us instead of helps us," Clinton said at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. "It hurts doctors, who aren't rewarded for providing the best care and are often punished for it financially. It hurts nurses who are asked to work longer hours, caring for more patients with fewer resources. And it hurts patients, who are forced to make complicated medical decisions without basic information about their conditions and options.".....more details at web site

3. "... by requiring insurers ..."
No single-payer system from her, either.

That's the vital step that none of the top three seems willing or brave enough to take.

5. The poor woman is demented
even Venezuala has got free healthcare.

She's doing no more than paying lip service to an issue by just mentioning it in a vague way.

6. Somebody help me out here.
"Raising standards for providers, educating patients and requiring insurers to reward innovation" - will any of this help me get medical care for my working but uninsured spouse? She's in serious pain already, so no insurance company will touch her and they sure as hell aren't going to help us with her pre-existing condition. What the hell are sick people supposed to do in this country? And what is Hillary's nothing of a plan going to do to change this? Should we just go somewhere and die, is that what Americans want?

7. What a vanilla, bullshit, MEANINGLESS suggestion for reform
HILLARY IS SIMPLY A REPUKE.

Disgusting. Simply disgusting.

She sickens me.

THIS is going to be our nominee? THIS? FUCK!

The ONLY solution is single payer, a law making healthcare a RIGHT and dissolution of health insurance companies. EVERYTHING ELSE is window dressing to continue the status quo.

DISGUSTING Hillary.

Have you heard of Hillary's plan to refloat the Titanic? She wants to start by rearranging the deck chairs.

Hillary does not represent our working class interests, only the interests of the elites and the big corporations.

8. Lip service
that is all we hear from her. Who was she talking to? The pharma companies or the people of the United States, some 46 million who are not able to afford decent health care.

And from her bright red lips--

"read my lips"

and try to figure out what exactly is it she is talking about, besides cheap sound bites.

Jesus effing Christ on the cross! Can this woman use some of her money to buy a clue?

This is the equivalent of GHWB marveling at that fancy device at the grocery store that magically scanned each item and automatically recored the price - a fancy device that had been around for half a dozen years at least.

12. Another Demerit for Hillary,
At the rate she is going, I will be working against her, hammer and tongs.

Not only are people doing without vital healthcare because of costs, those same costs are killing jobs and making American corporations less competitive.

The woman seems to quite willing to throw all that over to the side, in the search for campaign bux.

How spineless. What naked ambition.

and pharmaceutical companies. Private Insurance needs to go. I'll never vote for Hillary in the primary. :eyes:
Edwards' plan will employ both, with the thought that people will drop private care when they see how well single payer works.

30. She's stated that she wants universal healthcare coverage
by the end of her second term.

With such a glorious promise, how can we not support her? :eyes:

Meanwhile, as this is put on the backburner under President Clinton, 18,000 people a year will continue to needlessly die due to lack of health insurance.
