Nazi Doctor May Be Hiding From the German Police in Chile

NAZI DOCTOR MAY BE HIDING FROM THE GERMAN POLICE IN CHILE

(Aug. 20, 2007) Chilean media sources revealed this weekend that that German police investigators visited Chile in April looking for former Nazi doctor Austrian Aribert Heim, also known by the nicknames “Doctor Death” and as the “Butcher from Malhausen.” The German police delegation did not find the Nazi doctor, who fled Germany in 1962, but they believe the 94-year-old old Heim is alive and hiding in Chile.

The German police questioned Heim’s family, which currently resides in Chile. Heim’s daughter Waltraud Diharce has lived in Chile since the 1970s, mostly in Puerto Montt. Police note that Heim’s former girlfriend Gertrud Böser, who is Waltraud’s mother, visited Chile 18 times between 1982 and 1992.

Daughter Waltraud has claimed that she knows nothing about her father and that her mother died 20 years ago. In fact, her mother is living in Germany and other family members have provided various accounts of Heim’s death, saying once he died of cancer in South America and, on another occasion, saying he was murdered in Russia. Police note that bank accounts belonging to Heim remain active and that no one has claimed the more than 1 million Euros (US$1.3 million) in the accounts. This leads to suspicions that Heim is alive and in Chile.

Heim earned his grizzly nicknames working at the WWII Concentration Camp Malhausen in Germany where he killed and experimented on an unknown number of imprisoned European Jews. He operated without anesthetics and Jewish inmates were poisoned with various insertions directly into the heart in order to induce death as quickly as possible. “Doctor Death” often wanted to see which poison was the fastest and cheapest way to kill the prisoners.

From Wikipedia:
~snip~
Aribert Heim (born June 28, 1914) is a former Austrian doctor. As an SS doctor in a concentration camp in Mauthausen (where many thousands were killed, primarily European Jews, but also others who were persecuted under the Nazi regime including Spanish Republicans were sent), he is accused of killing many inmates with sadistic methods, such as direct injections of toxic compounds into the hearts of his victims without any anaesthetic.

The prisoners in Concentration Camp Mauthausen called Heim "Dr. Death." For about 2 months (October to December, 1941), Heim was in the camp near Linz, Austria, where he carried out the same experiments on Jews as the Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele had done. "Heim scared his prisoners to death," said a survivor. The SS doctor operated without anesthetics and Jewish inmates were poisoned with various insertions directly into the heart in order to induce death more quickly. The doctor wanted to see which poison was the fastest and cheapest way to kill people.

2. Well, if he's been missing for decades I imagine it would be
hard to have a photo of what he looked like as he aged. I'm sure it's the middle photo retouched to give an 'idea' of what he may look like as he aged. There is a forensic science branch that specializes in this type of thing.

4. I'm sure you're right. It was posted on a site in a language I don't know. It looks very much
like the kind of the images we've all seen as "age progressions," to help viewers try to approximate what the perp would look like currently, without any other information from which to draw.

We've seen it done with missing children who have been gone for years.

5. The Mossad is mentioned in this article:
GERMAN COURTS SEEK NAZI FUGITIVE THOUGHT TO BE IN CHILE

~snip~
Heim, a doctor, volunteered for military service with the SS (Nazi party), working in Finland, Norway, and the Mauthausen death camp. His last known location was discovered in 1980, when Israel’s famed secret service Mossad located him in Paysandú. Heim was working there as a psychiatrist under the name of Heinrich von Heim, but allegedly had the protection of the local authorities and was therefore able to escape before he could be brought to justice.

His family told German authorities that he had died of cancer in Argentina, poverty-stricken, in 1993. Yet when family members attempted to claim a million-dollar inheritance, they could not provide a death certificate.

German authorities believe they caught Heim’s scent again last year when his Berlin bank account suddenly began transferring large sums of money to a Spanish bank account in Rosas, on the Costa Brava. The account was owned by an artist couple, but before they could be interrogated, Heim changed locations again and the trail went cold.

He was later believed spotted in Denmark, but no solid evidence could be found. Heim’s last confirmed sighting in Germany was 44 years ago, when he fled from a thermal bath in Baden Baden. He had been working in the city as a doctor.

Most of the Nazi war criminals who have hidden in South America assumed false identities, protected by a clandestine network known as “Odessa.” This network is believed to be protecting Heim, as it has done for other Nazis. Josef Mengele, the “Angel of the Death” who carried out horrific science experiments on Jewish prisoners, used Odessa to hide in Brazil.

And Klaus Barbie, “the Butcher of Lyon,” was sheltered by Odessa in Bolivia, where he directed a well-known narco-military group known as “Los Novios de la Muerte.” And again, thanks to Odessa, Adolf Eichmann lived in Argentina under the name of Ricardo Klement, and spent time in Chile as Walther Rauf.

In 2005 the Simon Wiesenthal Center, named after the late Nazi hunter, implemented Operation Last Chance, which saw the tenacious Wiesenthal attempting to catch Heim himself. An engineer who spent most of his adult life pursuing Nazi war criminals, Wiesenthal was imprisoned in the Mauthasen death camp as a youth. He encouraged the German government to aggressively chase Heim until Wiesenthal’s death in September 2005.

An official delegation from Germany will soon be arriving in Chile. After paying a visit to Supreme Court officials, the representatives will then visit the public prosecutor’s office before a final stop to talk to authorities in Region V.

South America became the magnet for so many of these monsters, didn't it?

More will probably be revealed in time concerning CIA and Nazi relations after the 2nd World War. Here's a quick grab which mentions it:
THE CIA-NAZI CONNECTION

~snip~
RECRUITING NAZIS

GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATIONS. Numerous allegations about collaborating with the German Nazis -- during and after World War II -- have been leveled at the CIA.

First, the CIA and its predecessor, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the Strategic Services Unit (SSU), and the Central Intelligence Group (CIG), employed German intelligence personnel as sources of information. Afterward, the CIA sponsored the new West German intelligence service, an organization under the control of officers of the defunct German general staff.

Second, the OSS and CIA recruited collaborators of Nazi Germany, primarily from Eastern and Southern Europe, as sources of information and operants in the Soviet Union.

Third, the CIA and the Office of Policy Coordination (OPC) imported Nazis into the United States to provide information on the Soviet Union.

Fourth, the CIA and OPC, formed "secret armies" from various European groups, including Nazi sympathizers, and trained them in the United States.

Fifth, the CIA evacuated Nazi war criminals and collaborators through "rat lines" in southern Europe, allowing them to escape justice by relocating them in South America.

Sixth, the CIA brought Soviet and Soviet Bloc defectors to the United States.

Seventh, the CIA covered up its these activities from congressional and other federal investigators.

8. The Knights of Malta are part of the network
Latin America is popular because of the large conservative Catholic community and that the leadership of most of the governments after the War were controlled by or had strong ties to the Knights. The KOM, along with Opus Dei operatives, set up the 'Rat Line' and provided Vatican, Red Cross and KOM passports so that the Nazi fugitives could escape Europe.

6. I hope they find him
But the sad reality is that many, many Nazi criminals were able to flee Germany and go into hiding. Much of this was helped along by various American government agencies such as the CIA and their Project Paperclip. This is but one of many programs that the US instituted in order to have access to Nazi information and research that certain people considered valuable.

Sadly, there are a lot of US technological achievements based in whole or part on Nazi research, ranging from our space program to medical breakthroughs. After the war the US sold out the millions of victims of Nazi horror by failing to bring the criminals to justice in exchange for valuable information or services. Hell, there are still Nazi criminals alive and well in the US, living quiet unabtrusive lives here in exchange for the information or services that they brought to the US after the war. Even sadder is that the US was played by these people, especially in the area of Soviet intelligence, a mistake that led to the expansion and length of the Cold War.

The US wasn't alone in harboring these criminals, the Catholic Church and others, including Germans themselves, helped these Nazi criminals escape justice. But the US was the largest player in this arena.

7. I used to know one of those guys...
Went by the name of Bernhard VanDerheiden (sp?). Lived in King of Prussia, PA, back in '68.

His kids had been raised in Chile, where he was known as Bernardo Sanchez.

The old bastard had all sorts of Nazi regalia. And some lamps that had human skin shades. And tobacco pouches that were made of sewn-together scrotums.

All kinds of shit.

He was one weird guy.

And he did not work at all.

He was supported by the US Government.

9. I worked with one
He was a Captain in the Waffen SS, tried and convicted at Nuremberg and laughed about how the US Government brought him to the States and gave him a job because he had fought on the Eastern Front and was able to provide them with intel on the Soviets.
Every year, he would celebrate Hitler's birthday and made no bones about being an unrepentant Nazi.

11. That would explain our bad intel on the Soviets!

It was German military intel that incorrectly generated the myth that Moscow was saved by the onset of winter during the German blitzkrieg. While the Soviets had been advancing for two weeks prior to the winter shuting everything down, the Germans thought that was a last ditch effort by the few remaining divisions of the Soviet military, one that was about to peter out leaving Moscow for the taking.

It was not until the end of the Cold War that the West was granted access to Soviet military records of the time. We then learned that the divisions driving the Germans backwards were the first handful of 110 divisions traveling the Trans-Siberian railroad into Moscow.

Russia's winter actually SAVED the Germans from anhiliation. The Soviets were advancing with 90% of their forces still on the way to the front. While the Germans had no reserves in place, having placed all their eggs in the blitzkrieg basket.

This is one for the alternative history buffs. Have the Germans launch their attack earlier in the year as originally planned. The Soviet military would have arrived before the snows shut down the railroad. The German military on the eastern front would have been destroyed, and the Soviets would have begun a mad dash for the heart of Europe.

Hitler begs Churchill for a truce. Churchill offers to back off in exchange for a NAZI pullout of the Middle East and North Africa. Hitler, needing those military units for her own defense, complies. FDR rushes American transports to the Mediterranean to assist the Germans (after the Battle of Britain, it would be politically impossible for Churchill to provide overt assistance; though he might have launched Crimean War II as an effort officially separate from the NAZI/SOVIET war).

Conservatives in America, content to let Hitler rampage, gleefully back the US entering the war on the NAZI's side against the CCCP. The Soviet Union gets repulsed, with civil wars breaking out across the Union. NAZI Germany and the Americans/British enter a period of Cold War. After forty years of Cold War anti-NAZI propaganda, labor unions in the United States are sanctified. The United States is a model of progressive advances with gov't provided health care, free college education for those who pass the entrance exams, internships into labor unions straight out of high school for those who do not qualify for college or choose not to, etc.

NAZI Europe becomes an economic powerhouse where human rights violations are rampant. The US/British/Arab alliance (there is no Israel; European Jewry is dead) stands opposed to the NAZI/Japanese alliance.

Eat your heart out Harry Turtledove.

13. Man. That's nuts.
I grew up with a Nazi neighbor. To this day he is not a US citizen. But he had a house full of his own version of Bauhaus furniture. His place was a museum. I totally loved his atmosphere.

Yuck.

And by the way, it seem that you really get around. I guess I'm just hiding from the human race. Although I read your post about not going to SF in the last few years. I'm just the same way. Oh well... Bottoms up.

10. Many powerful Americans supported the Nazis from the beginning
So it is little wonder that they continued their support after WW2. Allen Dulles, first director of the CIA, was one and Prescott Bush a major player in financing their rise to power. Considering that these American industrialists were also behind setting up so many brutal fascist dictators in South America also it is not hard to understand why so many ended up in these places. Or why our own country is becoming a fascist dictatorship.
