John Edwards Wants Hillary Clinton to Return Murdoch's Money
Source: The National Ledger

John Edwards wants to be president, but for only a percentage of the country. "The time has come for Democrats to stop pretending to be friends with the very people who demonize the Democratic Party," Edwards said in a statement. He wants Hillary Clinton to return what looks to be about twenty grand of Murdoch's money...

Mrs. Clinton must be very proud of her new satanic friend.

15. That Article Says $40k Clinton, $14k Obama
And that was contributions from the parent (News Corp.), as well as Fox. That includes a whole lot of people.

Mrs. Clinton seems to have gotten $20k from the very top of News Corp.

21. It States The $14k Was From News Corp AND Fox Execs
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 11:02 PM by MannyGoldstein
We don't know how much was from News Corp, if any. Fox is a much larger entity (I believe) and so it's much more likely to have some Democratically-leaning folks. News Corp is just evil incarnate.

Peter Chemin has donated tens of thousands to Democrats (including Hillary, Obama and Dodd) and the DNC.

And the FEC let's you look up donations by workplace.

"Since early June, Mr. Obama has given to charity more than $21,000 in donations that his Senate campaign had received from Rezko associates now linked to the federal inquiries. He gave away $11,500 from Mr. Rezko himself last fall."

But beyond that, it becomes very speculative as to why a person gave money. Should Mrs. Clinton give back all of the money she raised from those attending Sir Rupert's fundraising soiree?

The article you linked to cites money from "Rezko and his circle", whatever that means. It looks like Obama's returned or given away all, or almost all, of the money from those under indictment.

31. Edwards is right.
We aren't going to be effective defending Hillary Clinton when she makes it into the presidential office, when Murdoch becomes unhappy with her and unleashes the dogs on her like he helped do with her husband in the 90s. This time around we'll be in line to slap her in the forehead and say, "Stupid, stupid, stupid."

34. Any truth to the story in the New York Post that Edwards took $800 k from
Harper Collins (News Corp) for a book deal? Isn't that how Murdoch bought Newt's affections? Newt of course pulled strings and got Murdoch a US citizenship so he could own US media. Democratic candidates should not accept money from any of Murdoch's companies.

39. Yes book deals are very different than donations. Donations are regulated and book
deals are not. Murdoch uses book deals to funnel very large amounts of money to politicians and it is legal. I hope all the money went to charity but I haven't seen much about that. Newt Gingrich helped pull political strings to get Murdoch American citizenship for the purpose of owning US media. In return Newt got a huge "book deal" from Murdoch. All legal.
Edwards should have done business with a company not owned by Murdoch.

36. Ridiculous
First off, the amount of money is peanuts. It's barely enough to buy off a House rep, much less a presidential candidate.

Secondly, News Corp is hardly the only company to spread money on both sides of the aisle.

Finally, the real issue is accepting corporate money. It's either a necessary evil or a betrayal of public trust, depending on your mileage, but the corporation itself makes no nevermind.

Maybe Edwards ("Maybe Edwards" is now his name, BTW, now that so many commentators say "Clinton, Obama and maybe Edwards" when discussing the Dem race) is just trying to create controversy where none exists. He couldn't poke his nose into the Clinton-Obama "fight" so he's trying to start one of his own.

I have no beef with Maybe Edwards. I think he's a good man and his wife is an amazing woman. But this is a non-issue that makes Edwards look petty and small.

I don't take the criticism seriously. But it's a good right jab, and it connects in the media and the public.

Edwards looks like a sleeper to me. He's got great ideas and a growing amount of grass roots support.
