Impeach Gonzales? (A group of House Democrats will introduce resolution)
Source: MSNBC

From NBC's Mike Viqueira
A group of House Democrats will introduce a resolution calling on the Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) will sponsor the measure. It will be dropped in the hopper tomorrow.

It's too early to say whether it will actually get anywhere.

Here's the text of resolution...

RESOLUTION
Directing the Committee on the Judiciary to investigate whether Alberto R. Gonzales, Attorney General of the United States, should be impeached for high crimes and
misdemeanors.
1 Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary shall
2 investigate fully whether sufficient grounds exist for the
3 House of Representatives to impeach Alberto R. Gonzales,
4 Attorney General of the United States, for high crimes
5 and misdemeanors.

1. That's not articles of impeachment, then.
Just a resolution that starts an investigation.

2. It's a start, and way better than nothing.
If you had asked me in January 2007 about impeachment, I would never have dreamed it would happen.

Now I'm not so sure.

and at least now Congress is doing their duty, which is all I ever asked of them. If their efforts fail, they fail. But there's definitely more than enough evidence to WARRANT launching an investigation, so LAUNCH AN INVESTIGATION!

The only way he's going to be shown the door is if Congress makes him leave. The calls for his impeachment have been around for a long time - since the Franklin raids back in 2006. Even hard core GOP conservatives like Darrell Issa have called for his ouster. I've been pushing for this to happen for quite a while now - let's hope there's enough political will from DP to see this through to its proper conclusion.

13. suppeanas for an impeachment trial would be hard to ignore,
and the courts would be hard pressed to step in to defend executive privledge as a defense against interfering with a constitutional function.

14. Conyers will sandbag it as he has H Res 333, the Cheney impeachment resolution
that has been languishing in his committee since Dennis Kucinich introduced it.
