Haneef: I was the victim

Former terrorism suspect Mohamed Haneef says he was "victimised" by authorities during his time in custody in Australia.

Dr Haneef returned home to Bangalore overnight, leaving behind a political storm which has erupted since the terrorism-related charge against him was dropped on Friday.

Speaking in India this morning, Dr Haneef claimed he had been "victimised by the Australian authority" and forced to play a part in "the drama played by the Australian Federal Police".

"It's an emotional moment for me being with my family and at home, here, after a long wait of 27 days, going through the trauma of being a victim."

Under-fire Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews is sticking to his guns on the case, saying he still has doubts about the innocence of the Indian-born doctor.
Earlier, in a paid interview with Channel Nine's 60 Minutes program before he left Australia, Dr Haneef denied having any connection to terrorism.

" never imagined even in my most remotest corner of my brain that I would be labeled with such a defaming thing," he said
