Gingrich Predicts Clinton-Obama Ticket

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats will nominate Hillary Rodham Clinton for president in 2008 and Barack Obama will be her running mate, former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicts.

The GOP will have three "formidable" choices in Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson, said Gingrich, who is considering whether to get into the race.

The Arizona senator "has taken positions so deeply at odds with his party's base that I don't see how he can get the nomination," Gingrich said Sunday in a broadcast interview.

1. I predict Newt Gingrich will one day walk the walk he often talks.
(But probably not.)

Powerful females and empowered blacks scare the hell out of the Republican base.

4. I hope nobody paid him good money for that prediction
Not that I'm saying the chances aren't good that will be the ticket, but that it doesn't take any special knowledge to guess that.

5. I think those tickets are what the republicans are planning on.
Their strategy and plan of action is being developed on the assumption of a Hillary/Obama ticket. It is a strong ticket and they'll have to hope that such a ticket can pull the far right into the voting booths as much as "gay marriage amendments" did.

15. It may represent cover for Republican vote machine rigging, too
Should a lot of votes flip to the Republican side via voting machine rigging, the meme will be "voters weren't honest with exit pollsters, because they didn't want to seem sexist or racist".

7. First of all, Newt has been on the Defense Policy Board
Advisory Committee this whole time, at the Pentagon, with Ollie North, Kissinger, Feith, Perle, and other loonies. So he's not some outsider has-been.

Secondly, this may be the Dream Team that Republicans think they can easily trounce. So it's a rally cry to Repubs: "We can beat this, surely!"

Lastly, he may run himself, and is getting himself psyched for the quest.

doesn't know what his lower lip is saying. You're not supposed to compare and contrast, you know, just accept whatever they're saying *today* as the unquestioned truth. And when they contradict themselves tomorrow, that's the truth too.

9. The best part is when Gingrich refers their choices as "formidable"
I love the Clinton / Obama ticket (even though I don't care much for HRC) because it gives just about every Democrat (and most independents) something to vote FOR.

Of the top three Republikans:

Romney running with anyone gets handily defeated.
Giuliani running with anyone gets handily defeated.
Thompson running with Giuliani as VP will be the toughest, but we still win so long as we play it right - and that's not guaranteed ;)

Anyway, Gingrich is another in a long LONG line of failed Republikan "celebrities" that keep getting credibility from the hate radio crowd long after they lost credibility with the general public.

12. MGKrebs predicts Gingrich will once again embarrass himself so badly that he
must retire for a few years until he forgets his shame. I that time, I predict a high likelihood of sexually deviant behavior, a cancerous growth on his neck, and a teaching position at Liberty University.

13. I'm in for the cancer
Republikans seem to get cancer in disproportionate amounts. I'm not drawing conclusions mind you, I'm just pointing out that just about every time one appears, it's to ramble on about their own new cancer, their wife's cancer, et cetera.

Hate radio may have the highest incident of cancers anywhere.

Hmmm ...

19. Considering Edwards and Obama are tied in Iowa at the moment...
Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 06:55 PM by ALiberalSailor
...and Hilary is 4th, I think he's underestimating Edwards. He wins in Iowa, and that could be the momentum that pushes him along. Of couse, this would all be pointless if Gore enters the race, which I'm still holding out for.

26. I will say something good about Newt Gingrich
This morning I heard him on one of the "news" shows. Most of it I disagreed with wholeheartedly.

However, he started off with saying these youtube "debates" are, essentially, bullshit. When Lincoln talked, he did so for hours at a stretch, and people listened; when Lincoln and Douglas debated, they did so repeatedly, in public, for three hours at a stretch; and that the problems we face these days are just as difficult as the problems they had then.

It seems like our nation's course is being determined entirely by ten-second soundbites and interpretations given to us by "experts."

Or maybe that's just the kernel of Newt's "populist" campaign?

30. Seriously, if Clinton gets the nomination, I don't think Obama will be the running mate of choice.
I think that would be Wesley Clark. Friends of the Clintons, probably stayed out of the run this time because Hillary was running. Distinguished military career, vetted during the last presidential run. High degree of public exposure. A MUCH stronger running mate than Barak Obama. I bet Hillary is well aware of this - even if Gingrich hasn't figured it out yet.

Not a bit of doubt in my mind. BR is running because BC told him he will be the perfect VP for Hillary.
