Saddam believed to be operating from Syria
"we only have bits and pieces at this point", said an intelligence source. "Defense Department officials believe senior aides if not Saddam himself fled to Syria in april, partly based on radio intercepts."

(The OSP is still busy at work, i wonder if the radio intercepts came from Sharon's version of the osp? )

2. Odd coincidence...
Syria has oil and it will take less bombs and soldiers to completely trash it. I suppose Saddam will hide in Iran just about the time G.E. gets the lastest order for cluster bombs off the assembly line.

14. Think again
"it will take less bombs and soldiers to completely trash it."

Not likely. Syria hasn't been santioned to death for the last decade, and thus their military is several steps up from what we faced in Iraq. They would not simply roll over and give up.

3. Alright, someone is wrong here...

Western intelligence sources said the United States is reviewing evidence that suggests that Saddam and his younger son, Qusay, might have succeeded in escaping to Syria.

Either this article is wrong or Qusay isn't dead. Or he did escape and then returned. Or he's really in Florida. Not that any of that would stop us from going after Syria...

5. YAY
Going right according to PNAC's plan. The warmup in Iraq (Gulf Wars Episode 2) is done with, and now's the time for the real war against a real army with a real air force, and real chem/bio weapons! Look for episode 4: Operation Iranian Democracy sometime in mid-late 2004

10. Not enough troops
With 40% of the effective comabt force deployed in Iraq and many more in other spots around the world, there are not enough troops to invade and occupy Syria or Iran. The only way to do it would be to get foreign troops tp help out in Iraq, which is not going to happen if its done to free up US troops to invade another country.

12. Other countries are saving lives by not helping the US in Iraq
You make a good point- as long as the Bush Regime's military forces are stretched thin as they are now, the Regime will have serious difficulties rolling through the ME, or anywhere else.

The PNAC plans require many more soldiers than they thought. Another miscalculation by the naive, pseudo-academic, neo-con, "we weren't soldiers" crowd.

7. This website is run by a former Jerusalem Post reporter.
All his sources are likely to be Israeli. The only thing this 'story' demonstrates is how badly Israel wants the U.S. to keep effing with Syria and Iran.

9. Disinformation
From the article dated 7/7/03:

"Western intelligence sources said the United States is reviewing evidence that suggests that Saddam and his younger son, Qusay, might have succeeded in escaping to Syria."

Nice try!
