Voters unhappy with Bush; Congress: Reuters poll
Source: Washington Post

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Most U.S. voters think the country is on the wrong track and remain deeply unhappy with President George W. Bush and Congress, but still feel good about their finances and optimistic about the future, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

<snip>

In the national survey of 1,012 likely voters, taken July 12 through July 14, about 66 percent said Bush had done only a fair or poor job as president, with 34 percent ranking his performance as excellent or good. That is up slightly from his low of 30 percent in early March and in line with other national polls showing Bush's approval ratings lingering at or near historically low levels amid continued chaos and bloodshed in Iraq.

But the marks for Congress, mired in gridlock over a series of partisan political battles after Democrats took power in the 2006 elections, continued to drop. While 83 percent said Congress was doing a fair or poor job, just 14 percent rated it excellent or good. Last October, in its final days, the Republican-led Congress earned ratings of excellent or good from 23 percent of voters.

"There is a growing sense that people voted for change in 2006 and they aren't getting it," Zogby said.

1. What bullshit. A lot of those anti-Congress respondents hate REPUKE congressmen
the congress number isn't about people hating on Dems it's about people being fed up with REPUKES blocking Dem initiatives

3. exactly
The staunch GOP'ers hate Democrats automatically, so the diehard will do that regardless,
along with the unhappy campers from the other side. It's small wonder the Congress numbers
are what they are.

This is just another Rove attempt to pump up Chucklenut's numbers under the ruse of a "low
poll" release. His numbers are actually far, far worse.

4. We can dismiss these poor congressional numbers only at our own peril.
One would only have to read this forum after authorization of the 'surge' and continued funding for the war to realize that even the 'base' of the democrats are not overly 'thrilled' with congress.

Things may have gotten better in the last couple of days however, when it appears the Senate leadership has grown a spine.

7. It's good to see who is behind these deceptions. Unmasking enablers helps.
Voters unhappy with Bush; Congress: Reuters poll

By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent
Reuters
Wednesday, July 18, 2007; 8:13 AM

It would appear that Mr.Whitesides and Reuters, at least in part, have revealed themselves to be soldiers in the army of deceivers and enablers which has pushed this country into a catastrophe. People who intend to mislead combine statistics in confusing ways. These paragraphs were particularly instructive:

Eighteen months before Bush leaves the White House, nearly two-thirds of Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction and give the president negative marks for his job performance.

An even bigger majority, 83 percent, say the Democratic-controlled Congress is doing only a fair or poor job -- the worst mark for Congress in a Zogby poll.

While 83 percent said Congress was doing a fair or poor job, just 14 percent rated it excellent or good. Last October, in its final days, the Republican-led Congress earned ratings of excellent or good from 23 percent of voters.

I wondered why combine fair and poor into one number? Was Mr. Zogby trying to save ink, band with space or what? Surely he asked about questions which would allow for disaggregation of his results. How many thought the Democrats were doing a poor, fair, good or excellent job? I am sure he asked the same of GOP'ers. Why not report those results?

If, as I assume, any responsible pollster would ask those questions, why weren't those numbers listed? Removing the obvious possibilities of cost and space, one is left with politics. The results not listed do not support their central argument, i.e., Americans are more upset with the Democratic-led congress than they were in the recent past with the GOP-led one. I believe their argument is false.

Understanding that many passionate Democratic party supporters are disillusioned with our Democratic leaders, falsely (in my opinion) thinking them inept and powerless, I refuse to believe that their support has devolved to the levels we are being led to consider as true. I now view Mr. Zogby's polls askance! I think this article and poll are more of the policies and politics of prestidigitation. We are all worse off for it.

I have posted about this before showing when a breakdown is reported their premise falls apart: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=3374460

Yep... I'm not happy w/ Congress either.

We haven't gotten the change we voted for. This Congress is still giving * a blank check.

9. This is why you don't put the loser in the White House.
There's a reason Al Gore received half-a-million more votes than George W. Bush.

I hope future generations learn this lesson.
