BURLINGTON, Vt. --Emboldened by peace activist Cindy Sheehan's plan to run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Vermont impeachment advocates plan to put up a candidate against freshman U.S. Rep. Peter Welch next year because he has failed to push for the removal of President Bush.
"There's plenty of issues that we and Peter Welch can agree on, but I don't think we can allow someone to represent us who ignores the fundamental principles that make this country a constitutional republic," said Dan DeWalt, of Newfane.
DeWalt, a 50-year-old musician who serves on the select board in Newfane, said he's willing to take on Welch if no other pro-impeachment advocates are.
On Town Meeting Day, about three dozen towns supported impeachment resolutions and the Vermont Senate approved one in April, but it died in the House. The state's congressional delegation, meanwhile, has balked at calling for impeachment, saying it would be a distraction to the more pressing task of ending the war.

Folks, I see a trend here. More and more we will see not only progressive Dems, but people from a variety of political parties calling for impeachment. Could the call to impeach create a split between the Dems that demand it vs the Dems that say there are not enough votes? I say it could and will!
Regardless of whether we have the votes or not, this life-long Democrat says that the very exercise alone is well worth the effort! Introducing Articles of Impeachment in the House tells both the American people and the world that we take the crimes of our administration seriously! No more is the "not enough votes" argument holding water.
Trying to impeach Shrub and Shooter says a lot about who we are and what We The People believe in!
We must try --- TRYING is just as important as the outcome.Trying says to the world, we believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL!
