Rep. Moody leaves GOP for Democrats (Maine State Legislature)

by Susan M. Cover, Blethen Maine News

AUGUSTA — State Rep. Stanley Moody of Manchester switched his party affiliation Monday from Republican to Democrat, saying he wants to make more progress on economic development. Moody said he hoped his move will put him in a better position to achieve some of his goals, including a desire to help small businesses succeed.

"Democratic leadership is on board with that and they are in the majority," he said. "I've got to go where the action is and do the best I can."

Moody's switch does not affect the balance of power in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives. The House will now have 81 Democrats, 66 Republicans, three unenrolled and one member of the Green Party. . . .

1. Too bad he isn't a state senator
The balance is really precarious there. The Dems currently have a one-senator advantage, I think.

But good news just the same. THanks for posting this, ima. It's tough to get Maine out of one's blood. :)

5. Oxyclean doesn't work...
Only moving back does (I left for 15 years and moved back four years ago...best move I ever made!)

3. Some GOOD news for a change?
Over the last couple decades, the flow has been almost exclusively the other way.

Do I really care about a state house member in Maine? Not really... but we've lost SCORES of that level over the last decade or so and it starts to add up. Good to see one coming our way occasionally.

Not exactly "Jeffords" level news... but good news nevertheless.

12. Just as well
I would rather have good Democrats then bad Democrats with us.

In the same light I would rather have good Republicans with us and bad Republicans stay where they are or go into oblivion.

8. Typical politician ~ No true ideology only lust for power
He is willing to switch so he can have some power. Do any of our politicians actually have any true beliefs?

9. Given a Choice between lust for power and ideology
I'll take lust for power. That way they listen, or lose.
