Sen. Graham Returns From Iraq With Renewed Hopes
Source: McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — While some Republican senators break with President Bush over Iraq, Sen. Lindsey Graham has returned from his seventh wartime visit there with renewed hope that the U.S. troop buildup is producing results.

--
At the same time, the South Carolina Republican told Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki and other Iraqi leaders that they've made too little progress on steps such as reconciling the country's warring factions and sharing oil revenues among Shiite Muslims, Sunni Muslim Arabs and Kurds.

--
In contrast with the stalled political progress, Graham said, the surge — the dispatch of 30,000 more U.S. troops that Bush began in January — is yielding clear results.

"The military part of the surge is working beyond my expectations," Graham said. "We literally have the enemy on the run. The Sunni part of Iraq has really rejected al Qaida all over the country. We're getting more information about al Qaida operations than we've ever received."

20. How many times and how many ways do I have to state this?
On 3 other forums I told my sad tale of spending the past 6 weeks visiting a repug dear friend who is so thoroughly BRAINWASHED that she can't even think her way out of a paper bag anymore. It kills me because I have known her for 35+ years.

Every word out of her mouth was total nonsense and the reason why is because of the guy I love to hate: Pat Robertson. This guy is downright
DANGEROUS people! I am a Christian, however, the Christian right is so damn nuts that this pie in the sky attitude is like a disease. You should strengthen your stomach for just an hour and listen to what he actually tells people to think on his show. You would understand guys like the senator a lot better. You would see the difference between willfully saying this stuff to support shrub and true BRAINWASHIG. This guy seems to BELIEVE what he is saying.

This Sen. Lindsey Graham sounds exactly like a brainwashed puppet and it is so strange to hear the same crap coming out of the mouth of another person. He has been brainwashed somewhere by somebody and is now just a talking head. Only a moron or a brainwashed Christian could make stupid statements like this a believe his own baloney.

Sorry--I had to say this. I lost my friend somewhere along the line and her brain isn't her own anymore. I sincerely think that millions are being brainwashed by the pulpit. I still love God but hopefully I won't lose my sense of discernment and outrage.

10. Known as the Rural Indiana Farmers' Market Effect, GOP members of Congress...
...have been returning from Iraq convinced the country is so uplifted by American occupation that daisies are literally sprouting in the streets. With the exception of Joe Lieberman, this condition is not known to affect non-Republicans.

"It's just nothing short of fabulous over there," exclaims Lindsey Graham. "I don't know why we would ever want to pull out," adds John McCain.

22. I prefer to term Senator L. Graham "Aunt Fancy" as A. Jackson did James Buchanan.
But that is neither here nor there, he came, he shopped, he hobnobbed with the brass. Big effing deal, Aunt Fancy. Did you drop by the morgue? Did anyone invite you in for tea? Oh, wait, it's too freaking dangerous to go into civilians' homes because they freaking hate us for destroying their country and enabling their civil war(s).

Military: 6 U.S. troops killed in Iraq

1 hour, 35 minutes ago

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military Saturday announced the deaths of six more American service members in combat operations in Iraq, most of them in the Baghdad area.

Two soldiers died Friday and three others were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near their patrol in east Baghdad, the military said.

A U.S. soldier and an Iraqi interpreter were killed Friday when an explosively formed penetrator exploded near their patrol in southeastern Baghdad, the military said. Three soldiers were wounded.

Explosively formed penetrators are high-tech bombs that the U.S. believes are provided by Iran. The Iranians deny the charge.

Three other service members were killed Thursday — two Marines in western Anbar province and a soldier in Baghdad, the command said.

37. He's already in a sanitarium, being a Sen. from SC...
I'm also a native of South Carolina.

Way back when I was just a wee redneck in elementary school, we had a mandatory course in South Carolina state history.

A newspaper editor summed up the whole state forevermore, when South Carolina was debating secession in 1860:

"South Carolina. Too small to be a nation, and too big to be an insane asylum."
