WASHINGTON (AP) — The Bush administration is nearing a decision
to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and move the terror
suspects there to military prisons elsewhere, The Associated Press
has learned.

President Bush’s national security and legal advisers are
expected to discuss the move at the White House on Friday and, for
the first time, it appears a consensus is developing, senior
administration officials said Thursday.

The advisers will consider a new proposal to shut the center and
transfer detainees to one or more Defense Department facilities,
including the maximum security military prison at Fort Leavenworth
in Kansas, where they could face trial, said the officials. They
spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing
internal deliberations.

4. Unlikely
without the ability to clear out the condmened with secret trials, executions, etc. Who is he making a deal with to get away with turning them loose? That means they have other means of sequestering them and simply are moving away from the hot spot to other clever locations to start the game all over again.

Besides, they need that space for the Cuban plan.

5. They are probably going to move them within our borders and place them under the
jurisdiction of our courts as their plan of working outside our justice system has failed.

Closing the Guantanamo Bay concentration camp will be a last-ditch effort to save their sorry asses. Too little, too late.

Decision on Guantanamo not imminent, U.S. says

By Caren Bohan

WASHINGTON, June 21 (Reuters) - A White House meeting
on the future of the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay
is no longer on the schedule for Friday, an official said
after news reports that the Bush administration was nearing
agreement on closing the controversial facility.

U.S. officials tried to play down the idea that a decision
was close, although they reiterated President George W.
Bush's stated desire to shut the detention center.

Critics, including some of Washington's allies, have called
for Guantanamo to be closed and said the indefinite
detention of terrorism suspects there infringed their human
rights.

"No decisions on the future of Guantanamo Bay are imminent,"
said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino. "The president
has long expressed a desire to close the Guantanamo Bay
detention facility and to do so in a responsible way."

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A White House meeting planned for Friday

canceled after The Associated Press reported the Bush administration
was "nearing a decision" to close the center.

National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said there would

the cancellation

Earlier Thursday, AP reported that officials were close to a decision
to shut down the facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and that the
administration had scheduled a meeting to discuss a proposal to transfer
the detainees to other military prisons.

Officials from the White House, the Pentagon and the Justice and State
departments denied the AP report.
