1. That's great, asking people about a bill that they know nothing about
If you only give one side of the story and that's all people hear and even if it sounds good but is a lie, people will support the lie not knowing they are being lied to. And the support being reported brings about even more support.

There will come a time when people realize they've been had but by then it is too late. A better Medicare bill will not come out of a Republican controlled government.

It is essential for all Americans to practice the habit of critical thinking. But I doubt that will happen.

2. Except for one leeeeeetle thing
When it comes to seniors and their benefits, we are talking about one savvy bunch. They can quote chapter and verse about the new prescription "benefit". And the Repugs ain't gonna like what they do in 2004. "Critical thinking"? That's right up there with "early bird specials" for most seniors - trust me, they have figured the angles, and the spin, and they know what's going on.

Bush is toast.

8. AARP backed this bill
And even now their newsletter to seniors is full of "information" designed to bring them over to the side of the Republicans. What many don't know is that Bush rewarded AARP with large grants last year (money to help seniors find employment)and AARP is paying him back now.

William Novelli, the CEO of AARP is close to Gingrich and being an ex-public relations hack knows how to use propaganda. The 15,000 seniors who tried to drop their membership are being ignored. They can't burn the damn things (they're plastic) and they can't get through on the 1-800 lines.

In the meantime, AARP is running on its reputation of being a friend to seniors. Many older people still believe this, giving credence to the misinformation AARP will continue to dish out.

9. Gosh, I never thought of burning it! When I mailed mine back, I
packed it in some nice comfy fecal material, so that it wouldn't be lonely on its trip! And I bet somebody noticed when I stopped the credit charge for membership.

Maybe not. But I bet they noticed my card.

(I can't help it! I grew up in the 60s!)

10. Wish I hadn't been paid up
until 2005. I requested a refund just to get their attention. I'm still waiting for it.

12. A lot of seniors are really pissed at AARP though
I think that this medicare bill might have been a final blow to that organization's credibility. Good riddance too.

11. It would be a pretty credible argument coming from a Dr.
And you know, all this talk about Dean being weak on foreign policy is 1) baseless and 2) not that important because elections focus on domestic, not foreign, policy.
