Derby trip violated law on contributions, GOP says

By MIKE DENNISON
Gazette State Bureau

HELENA - The Montana Republican Party on Wednesday accused Gov. Brian Schweitzer of accepting an illegal corporate contribution by attending fundraising events in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby last month. Republicans asked a state office to investigate.

Chris Wilcox, executive director of the Republican Party, filed a formal complaint with Commissioner of Political Practices Dennis Unsworth.

"We're asking a straightforward question: Is it illegal for an elected officeholder to have his political travel paid for by a group that takes corporate money?" he said. "I believe it is illegal and, at the very least, unethical."

Schweitzer traveled to Louisville, Ky., the weekend of May 5 at the expense of the Democratic Governors Association. He said he attended general fundraisers for the DGA in Louisville and also went to the 133rd running of the Kentucky Derby.

3. I agree, I mean if Schweitzer broke the law, then the other 27 did too
And since there's been not one peep on Fox "News" about this in almost four weeks, I'm betting on "mountain out of molehill."

2. Yes, the GOP is *SO CONCERNED* about Dems doing things that might be
illegal, but they sure aren't interested in taking a look at people in their own party.

Do as we say, not as we do, and our standards are different than yours. :eyes:

5. The GOP is overrun by pederasts, but they'd rather go after some
nickel dime offenses of the Dems.

4. What a strange statement, 'a group that takes corporate money'! What political group doesn't take
corporate money?
