The Distinctive insignia of the 44th Signal Battalion as depicted on the Unit's colors reflects the orange and white of the Signal Corps. The white broad area between two narrow bands refers to the unit's past mission as a signal construction battalion. The lightning bolts symbolize communications, while the sword refers to the tactical support mission of the battalion exemplifying soldiers' determination to defend freedom against oppression.

6. I don't think that's correct.
The task force they are talking about is different.

This particular signal battalion calls themselves "task force lightning" but it is a different unit.

Task Force Lightning in Iraq is an infantry task force with HQ from the 25th Infantry Division (aka the "electric strawberries"), so named because of the lightning bolt on their unit patch.

7. LOL
Task Force Lightning is my parent division, the 25th ID and the 4 modular brigades assigned to it that make up MND-N Multi National Division North, the Army Division in charge of Iraq in all areas north of Baghdad except for the 3 Kurdish provinces of Zakho, Arbil, and Sulimaniyah.

Task Force Lightning main units are:

25th Infantry Division headquarters

3rd Brigade 1st Cav Division----Diyala Province
4th Brigade 1st Cav Division----Ninewah Province
3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne Division---Salahdin Province
3rd Brigade 25th Infantry Division---Kirkuk Province

With the Surge the following Brigade has been added

4th Brigade 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker)

There are other units as well but these are the main "war fighting" units of TF Lightning.........

Before anyone says it, Army doctrine makes us modular, plug and play so to speak, a Division command post is selected and then 4 Brigades are tasked across the Army to meet the various needs of the sector one is tasked with patrolling.

For example you need Mech Infantry for a place like Diyala, Regular Leg Infantry for Tikrit and Kirkuk due to the nature of architecture and city planning not allowing large vehicles into the city and in a place like Mosul, a large city, Strykers are an excellent choice.............

The 25th apparently never checked with that signal battalion to use their name!

A "task force" is, by definition, a "modular" unit. If the headquarters is an infantry unit, it will be called an infantry task force, but may include a variety of other units, such as Armor, Engineer, Cav and a multitude of REMF units.

I assume you are stateside now. What is your actual unit?

9. 2nd Brigade 25th Infantry Division otherwise known as the
5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, we are deploying to MND-N at the end of the year to replace the units of Task Force Lightning. Our parent unit is 1AD and I'm not sure who our sister brigades are..........
