Vegetarian Virgin Mary ad riles Boston church
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston has demanded the removal of an animal rights group's billboard advertisement depicting the Virgin Mary cradling a lifeless chicken in her arms.

The ad by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) features the tagline "Go Vegetarian - It's an Immaculate Conception," a reference to teachings about Mary's purity.

But the church said the billboard was "offensive at any time" and especially so during the Christmas season.

It is customary to include a link to the duplicate posting in LBN.

3. PETA is a hat full of nuts.

They want the names of towns changed because they "sound" like a meat product when in fact they are named after Dutch words, they mount a "got beer" campaign on college campi, they accost children with innappropriate comics that tell them to keep their pets away from their mothers because she will kill them and now this. They have lost their path and their minds.

5. Hey, we don't need PETA at all because the pros
in charge of our dead animal supply know what they're doin'!

Right? I mean, if you can drag a dead animal into the slaughterhouse, it's OK, it's not like it was traumatized by dyin' at an early age.

And this mad cow stuff, well it's Brit! Nuff said!

7. People with Exceptionally Tortured Attitudes
Why is it that every time PETA's actions are questioned, the immediate defence is to cite the idiocy of PETA's opponents as rationalization for PETA's actions? In other words, how the hell does the disgusting behavior of the ranch/beef/mcdonalds empire have any bearing on what you idiots do? I don't exactly see a lot of people standing up for the Big Mac around here. I suppose there's some argument to be made here by saying "fight fire with fire." That sounds a lot like "eye for an eye" to me, which has proven to be one of the worst concepts in the history of the human race.

My biggest problem with PETA is that its antics no longer provide me with entertainment. Same stuff over and over again.

11. I find those religious ads stupid...
I don't eat meat, but not because somebody says Jesus likes that... LOL, why do people need Jesus or the bible to behave in certain ways...

8. To get the media and folks to pay attention to them, they have to act nuts

sometimes.

I don't think that PETA is concerned about their own image, as long as they get their message out.

Of course, IMHO, this also means that it would be a bad move for another organization that does need to worry about image (such as a political party) to embrace the PETA organization.

4. PETA is offensive at all times
As long as no Dems give them positive vibes we'll be ok.

6. Well, this one isn't as offensive as it is incomprehensible
Do they mean concept instead of conception, or am I just having a bad brain day?

And I love it when two organizations with no credibility go at it. The Boston Archdiocese acting like they have a copyright on Mary is pretty funny, too.

9. Gawd, come on. That's not even a photo of Mary!
It's just a cartoon. It barely even looks like her.

On the other hand, there's no question that the insinuation that Mary might refuse to eat animal flesh is highly sacrilegious. Somebody deserves to be burnt for this. I'm talking well done, too, no medium rare stuff this time.

10. "Offensive" or not
the thing is just stupid and doesn't make any sense. I don't get the point they are trying to make and I'm a vegetarian.
