Rosie O’Donnell won’t return to ‘The View’
Announcement comes two days after heated on-air fight with co-host

Two days after getting into a fiery on-air argument, ABC announced Friday that Rosie O'Donnell won't return to "The View."

Brian Frons, the president of the nework's daytime division said in a statement posted on ABCNews.com, "We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to 'The View' and wish her well."

O'Donnell released a statement following the announcement, saying, "I'm extremely grateful. It's been an amazing year and I love all three women."

Barbara Walters, the show's creator and co-executive producer, said, "I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at 'The View.' I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."

I'll tell you why we care. Rosie O'Donnell brought a genuine leftwing political point of view to daytime network television, reaching milions of people, mostly middle class women, many of whom had never HEARD such before. She'd been at it since September. Ratings for a show I literally couldn't stomach went up 15% during her tenure on The View. And as Keith Olbermann put it tonight, "raised the relevence" factor by about 450%. People loved her, loved hearing her point of view, loved The View with her on it.

NOT ONLY THAT, but she raised the bar for The View to such an extent that Barbara Walters is going to have to find someone comparable or equally "engaging" to fill her place. That won't be easy, but it's probaby possible.

So this isn't just celebrity news, not at all. It's POLITICAL news. It's "getting our word out" news. It's "reaching the masses with our message" news. It's more efforts to "stop the war" news.

The majority of people who vote are not informed and form their opinions from the crap that is offered on tv. I was very annoyed that Rosie allowed herself to fall back into fighting about that previous issue, as I would've loved to have heard them work through some of Joy's accusations.

Rosie O'Donnell is actually a hero. She put the truth out there for the 30%ers and got people to listen. She changed minds, opened some eyes. Much like Howard Dean and Dennis Kucinich, she has been vilified, reduced to a cartoonish-like character and attacked on a personal level. Yes, it's daytime t.v. crapola, etc., but she was one of only a handful of people who were speaking truth to power in corporate media. I for one would have preferred a hot poker to the eyes rather than watch such a show beforehand, but tuned in regularly for the hot topics portion for the pleasure of hearing the truth spoken over the airwaves. Needless to say, it's off my radar now . . .

It was pathetic, as they edited out nearly everything Rosie said and made it look like the blonde airhead actually held her own. I don't know how I happened to see the whole incident, as I never watch the show, but somehow I did this time, and I would have to say it was a shouting match with both women looking pretty miserable. But of course, the nerds at the propaganda network made Rosie out to be a loser, and the blonde really stood tall....NOT.

All the damn right wing shows gave it to Rosie with both barrells, and not once did I see any left wing person take a stand for her.(not in here)
Liz is about the damn dumbest and ill informed person I know. The way I see it she is a another Condi Rice and to me Condi is the most over rated person I know.
