Bush: China, Russia must shut out Iran
By Associated Press
Friday, May 25, 2007 - Updated: 07:21 AM EST

WASHINGTON - President Bush pressed China and Russia to cooperate against Iran, saying they “have got to understand” the world will suffer if Iran gets nuclear weapons.

The Western members of the U.N. Security Council, plus Germany, have pushed for tough penalties against Iran for refusing to suspend uranium enrichment. But opposition from Russia and China has led the Security Council to settle for watered-down measures.

Bush said Iran’s defiance means it is time to go further.

“The world has spoken . . . And yet they’re constantly ignoring the demands. My view is that we need to strengthen our sanction regime,” Bush said. He said he plans to urge Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Vladimir Putin that “an Iran with a nuclear weapon would be incredibly destabilizing for the world.”

2. I remember people calling me a conspiracy nut HERE AT DU for the temerity to suggest
a war with Iran.

I just want to bring that up.

4. I feel your pain...
I went out on a limb a few months ago and suggested that democrats would end up selling out on Iraq so that Bush can have a free reign to start ANOTHER war...that major democratic candidates have already pledged to support at several lobbyist whistle stops.

Hate to think that prediction might be true -- hate to think the timing of the war and ultimately the ONLY thing that the democrats got, was to get Bush to start his war AFTER Congress recessed. I get the feeling that Bush really did threaten to invade Iran and even perhaps had the government sent out 'smoke' to prove the point.

But I think all that did was force the democrats hand on other issues, as they would have to actually do something about an attack on Iran, and legislatively that is something the 'cabal' wouldn't be able to control. Such a congressional storm might end up moth-balling the 'excellent' Iraq adventure, which at this point, looks to be a permanent state of terror courtesy of western corporate extremists.

6. If we attack Iran, Gulf oil exports will be highly disrupted and the price of oil will skyrocket
And Russia will make even MORE money from their own oil exports.

Although Jintao would no doubt be less than pleased about oil production disruptions, they HAVE been working out side agreements with a large number of non-Gulf producers, such as Venezuela, Canada, etc...Who would win the bidding war for the available oil at that point, the US or their Chinese creditors?

At that rate, it sounds like a US attack on Iran would be far more in Russia and China's interest than ours...

7. Iran is a prospective member of SCO.

Russia and China are not going to "flip" on them. Actually I expect the Chinese to commit ground troops if Iran is attacked. Any war with Iran will focus on Khuzestan province. That's where 90% of Iranian oil is located and it will require ground troops.

8. Chuckle. I think Bush will find that China and Russia have minds ...
... and agendas, of their own. Go away, little boy.
