US Candidate Paul Assigns Reading to Giuliani
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, May 24 (Reuters) - Longshot Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul on Thursday gave front-runner Rudy Giuliani a list of foreign-policy books to back up his contention that attacks by Islamic militants are fueled by the U.S. presence in the Middle East.

"I'm giving Mr. Giuliani a reading assignment," the nine-term Texas congressman said as he stood behind a stack of books that included the report by the commission that examined the attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.

Paul advocates a limited U.S. foreign policy, including an end to the war in Iraq and a reduction in troop levels abroad.

Paul said he was unfairly attacked during last week's debate by 10 Republican presidential hopefuls, when Giuliani dismissed his contention that U.S. policies in the Middle East had contributed to the attacks in New York and Washington.

A spokeswoman for Giuliani derided Paul's latest comments.

"It is extraordinary and reckless to claim that the United States invited the attacks on September 11th," Maria Comella said in an e-mail.

"And to further declare Rudy Giuliani needs to be educated on September 11th when millions of people around the world saw him dealing with these terrorist attacks firsthand is just as absurd."

2. Poor logic by Maria Comella.......
"And to further declare Rudy Giuliani needs to be educated on September 11th when millions of people around the world saw him dealing with these terrorist attacks firsthand is just as absurd."

Because Ghouliani happened to be at the site of the attack in no way confirms that he knows anything about the origins of the attack or what might have been the motivations of the attackers.

6. Good for Paul. kr
He's changed the debate... we're finally focusing on our OWN foreign policy and the effects it has had on the ME over the course of many, many past decades.

8. Hey, Rudy! Try reading once in a while. You MIGHT learn something.
And Maria Comella, you might try and read yourself, too, before making blanket unequivocal statements like that for your boss.

9. Instead of the Republicans
on stage making love during the debates Ron Paul has made them think, ponder, squirm, get pissed off and fired up.

Paul has his issues I disagree with but wow is he making some waves within the Republican party. I love the taste of a fried repuke in the late afternoon.

10. As far as I can see
He's the ghost of 'conservatism past' come to haunt them.

I think Goldwater would heartily agree with him.

11. Did he include the Pulitzer Prize winning THE PRIZE? (a history of oil)
If you read that book, you can stop after World War II, and still know everything you need to know about what we are doing in Iraq.

If you read up to 1953, you know why we have problems with Iran.

The bottom line is, when oil companies call up senators and presidents, they don't ask for favors, they give orders.

and they are obeyed.

12. He saw the aftermath, thus he knows the causes.
How does a ridiculous rejoinder like this not get laughed right out of town?

I'm so tired of this nobody waving the bloody shirt. Yeah he reduced crime in New York, but what else has he done?
