FEC Says Kucinich Qualifies for Funding
2 hours, 9 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Federal Election Commission (news - web sites) has declared Rep. Dennis Kucinich (news - web sites) qualified to receive federal matching funds, making the Ohio congressman eligible for up to $18.6 million, the FEC said Wednesday.

Candidates must meet FEC requirements to qualify, including raising a threshold amount of $100,000 by collecting $5,000 in 20 different states in amounts no greater than $250 from any individual. They also must agree to an overall spending limit, abide by spending limits in each state, use public funds only for legitimate campaign-related expenses, keep financial records, and permit an extensive campaign audit.

The FEC said in a statement that Kucinich contributions from the following states were verified for threshold purposes: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

21. It won't be close to that much though. Kucinich has only rased a few mil.
These are MATCHING funds. Which means that Kucinich will likely, considering his fundraising style, have about 50% more funds than he has already raised and will raise in the future.

5. FANTASTIC!
I've been contributing to DK for several months now. He is really opposed to the way food is being handled in this country, in fact is a student of macrobiotics. Google: kucinich macrobiotics and you'd be surprised! He might really be able to utilize many of his beliefs now! HURRAH!!!

This money will REALLY help his campaign! I know of many Kucinich supporters out there and now we can start to finally have the ability to work! :D

GREAT NEWS! Thanks for the info!! :D

18. Yes
I disagree with most of his platform. I think he is too far to the left and the Dems answer to Tom DeLay. Think how happy we would be if he was running in their primary.

I'm asking because I think he has a wonderful platform and I can't imagine what a Dem would disagree with--aside from his electability.

14. On a personal level, good for Dennis, realistically, he is out of the race
I enjoy him in the debates, almost as much as I enjoy Sharpton. But let's get real here. Neither of them hold a prayer of getting the nomination, let alone winning the election. I have to admit that at this late stage of the game it is a waste of taxpayer money. At least 4, if not more, of the candidates have had their chance and haven't made the cut. Isn't it about time to concentrate our eneries and messages where it will do the most good?

37. It's not just about winning, folks
It's about broadening the debate. It's about pulling the mega-ship leftward. It's about raising issues that others don't touch. It's about reminding people what the word 'liberal' means.

16. And where have these people been during the last year of polling?
I understand that poll numbers can be tweaked but some of the candidates have NEVER gotten double digit results. You can put your head in the sand but the truth refuses to go away. There are winners and losers in every race. I just think it is time to look at the results we have and make a well thought out decision.

I don't have the exact info. right now its in my other mailbox but he pulled in 17%, that is right, 17%!! Why do you think that his supporter have been so upset with ABC? Answer: THE MEDIA IS TRYING ITS BEST TO IGNORE THIS "inconvenience"!

34. You, his supporter, don't even have the info you quote on hand.
I find that hard to blame on "the media". I would have thought it would be important enough to at least remember a few details of the 17% claim. One area? Several weeks ago? I am eagerly awaiting the details of the 17% support. I have a funny feeling it is an extremely narrow area.

Sorry I cannot completely give details - I've been in the hospital and I almost died ok? My email is a mess to say the least!

His campaign called me on the phone about 2 weeks ago after the Ted Koppell incident and reiterated the 17% figure.

Luckily, his campaign is more forgiving than you are!

33. I want to make it clear, I have no problem with him staying in till the
end. I was merely agreeing that the tax dollars could be better spent. Everyone should be able to run for office and get their views heard. I just shouldn't be forced to finance, I hate to use this term but it applies, a vanity campaign. I am able to hear many people's point of view without having to pay for them.

I just wanted to make sure I made that clear. I really think he is fighting "the good fight".

35. I can't think of a better use of my tax dollars than
getting Dennis's message out. And I could probably come up with ten thousand things that my tax dollars are spent on that to me are less valuable, starting with every penny given to Halliburton.

I worry a lot more about the blood being spilled by George W. Bush than I do about my stupid "tax dollars."

40. Democracy
I don't believe that any exercise of democracy is a waste of taxpayer dollars, I would like to believe that is pretty much what we do here or at least what we are supposed to do here. It would be nice to let the voters decide this after he uses some of the money to campaign. A more open debate with more ideas not less is I believe better for democracy, the country and the people.

and wish him the very best. He is a voice crying out in the wilderness -- something we desperately need--someone who is a truth teller and not merely another programmed candidate.

I am proud to have had the opportunity to shake his hand. Dennis is a real man and a real candidate.

22. Hooray! Dennis is my guy
I sent his campaign a thousand bucks right after the Ted Koppell incident, then a few days later I got a call from guess who? A DK manager, who handed the phone to Dennis himself. I was blown away. All I could do on the spot was sputter a heartfelt thank you, that I love him and I'll write another check when he needs it for the next round. He thanked me and said he'll call back when the time comes.

That is totally awesome! How exciting for you! :D

Right after that Ted Koppell incident I too sent him another contribution because it made me so very angry. It wasn't a $1,000.00; it was a small contribution.

In any event, it just shows that Dennis Kucinich is correct! EVERY PERSON MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Totally unexpected.

I thought it was obscene that ABC whores pulled their "reporters" off of DK's campaign the day after he took Ted K. and the media to task. That did it for me.

27. I'm a Dean fan, but this is not a waste of taxpayer money.
Why? Easy - we need more liberal voices to be heard. Kucinich isn't going to win - I know that - but he raises excellent points and I agree with many of his opinions. Simply having him speak out publicly and having the American people notice will help us define what the Democrats are all about when the 2004 campaign season rolls around.
