Gallup: Just 25 percent of us like nation's state
Source: Chicago Tribune

A new Gallup Poll found only 25 percent of Americans are satisfied with how things are going in the U.S., with 73 percent saying they were disatisfied.

It was one of the lowest ratings since 1979 when Gallup first asked the question. Iraq was the problem survey respondents fround most troubling, Gallup tells us.

As with everything in this politically polarized nation, party affiliation has nearly everthing to do with whether the glass is viewed as half empty or full, with Republicans more likely to be satisfied than Democrats.

Here are some key passages from Gallup's report on its findings:

The current 25% satisfaction level is very low by historical standards. Since Gallup first asked this question in 1979, the average percentage of Americans saying they are satisfied with conditions in the country is 43%...

1. what's there to be happy about?

  • Iraq is a disaster on many, many levels, with decades of repercussions, mostly (if not all) negative.
  • Our glorious leader is a lying, power-hungry scumbag who has completely lost what what left of his puny, little brain.
  • The Job Market sucks.
  • Utility prices are sky-rocketing.
  • Our international standing has been critically damaged, due to some of the worst policy decisions in the history of the US.
  • We torture people.
  • Our deficit has grown such that it will take generations to repay, if it can be repaid at all.
  • The Bill of Rights and the Constitution have been rather gleefully shredded.
  • Our infrastructure is failing.
  • Did I mention that we torture people now?
  • Our Army is committing War Crimes, almost on a daily basis, on our dime and all in our name.
  • Thanks to the No Child Left Behind initiative, our children are now dumber than ever.
  • Thanks to the Clear Skies Initiative, green house gases have increased.
  • Our government has been seized by a group of extremists hell-bent on running our once great republic into the ground.

So again I ask: what is there to be happy about?

4. there are things that make me happy, but they have nothing to do with gov't
which doesn't make me happy in the least.

And I was able to delineate a few of those things... care to share a few of yours?

3. Considering that this is Gallup
who usually gives Republicans the benefit of extra 3-5% percentage points in every poll, we could guess that the number of people actually supported GWB and the direction of the country is less than 20%.
