Man Gets 3 Years For Barroom Remark About Bush
(St. Louis-AP) -- A federal appeals court has upheld the sentence for a man who had suggested that President Bush might be set ablaze.

Richard Humphreys appealed his three-year sentence, saying his comment was protected by free speech rights. He was convicted in 2002 of threatening to kill or harm the president.

The court found Humphreys suffers from bipolar disorder, and should serve his confinement in a federal medical center.

Humphreys says he got into a barroom discussion with a truck driver a day before Bush's March 2001 visit to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A bartender who overheard the conversation told police that Humphreys talked about a "burning Bush" and the possibility of someone setting Bush on fire.

1. Hmmmm.....
"Hopefully, medication over a significant period of years will result in his being able to live outside the prison confines, free of delusions and the type of behavior he exhibited here," the court ruled.

3. Jebus. Freedom of speech my ass.
Now, if he had made some statement, some sort of declaration that actually threatened Bush, perhaps I could understand it. Or if it was PROVEN that he had made plans to assassinate him, fine, lock him up.

Christ if every freeper that threatened Clinton that way was jailed we'd have won every state in 2000.

I can't count the number of times I've heard repugs grumbling about how they would like to murder Bill and Hilary in horrible and creative ways, yet have any of them been sent to prison for it?

13. John Derbyshire is still free
despite being one of the reasons why Chelsea Clinton retains Secret Service protection.

Chelsea is a Clinton. She bears the taint; and though not prosecutable in law, in custom and nature the taint cannot be ignored. All the great despotisms of the past — I'm not arguing for despotism as a principle, but they sure knew how to deal with potential trouble — recognized that the families of objectionable citizens were a continuing threat. In Stalin's penal code it was a crime to be the wife or child of an "enemy of the people". The Nazis used the same principle, which they called Sippenhaft, "clan liability". In Imperial China, enemies of the state were punished "to the ninth degree": that is, everyone in the offender's own generation would be killed, and everyone related via four generations up, to the great-great-grandparents, and four generations down, to the great-great-grandchildren, would also be killed. (This sounds complicated, but in practice what usually happened was that a battalion of soldiers was sent to the offender's home town, where they killed everyone they could find, on the principle neca eos omnes, deus suos agnoscet — "let God sort 'em out".)

30. wingnuts used Clinton replicas for target practice
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 11:51 PM by submerged99
When Clinton was president I remember reading various accounts about militia members using cutouts of Bill and Hillary Clinton as targets on their shooting range. This was reported, offhandedly, in articles and in a book I read by Morris Dees called"gathering storm"(might be mistaken on the title)

So, why were none of these right wingers ever brought up on charges for firing weapons at Clinton Targets and making threats about what they wanted to do to him?

Can you imagine what would happen if a group of people got together and used Chimpy and his family for targer practice or made threats against Ashcroft in the same way they did Reno?

You can here:

Burn Bush - you get the matches and I'll get the gasoline
Burn Bush - and spread his ashes all across the Middle East
Burn Bush - strike a match and make his flesh sear.
Fight the war on terror - kill the one who's spreading fear.

34. I always watch what I say...
... I always watch it come right out of my mouth at the spead of sound. It's not my fault people can't handle intelligent conversation. It's not my responsibility to sheild the ignorant from reality. So people over-react sometimes, some misunderstand, or take things out of context, so people get scared, or angry at what I have to say... Tough Shit.

After 9/11 damn near everybody and their mother had at least one flag on their car. Everybody I spoke to was so damned "Ra! Ra! America!" it made me nervous. No body wanted to hear me say that blind patriotism can be a very dangerous thing. It seemed nobody drew the parrallel between current surge in ultra-patriotism here, and the patriotism that gripped Germany in the 1920's and early 30's. Afganistan is merely Czechoslovakia revisited and Iraq is our Poland...

...So who wants to be France?

Well I've done my patriotic duty and spoken my mind. I'm certain my country will reward me for my steadfast resovle, and the ferrocity with which I defend my First Amendment right. There's a roomy three by three by three condo in Cuba with my name written all over it.

I want it known that I am in no way threatening the President, (I support Al Gore 100%) nor am I threatening the jackass that has illegally seized the reins of our power. If his minions are reading this, (and I'm sure, with those pesky civil liberties out of the way, that they are.) if I have offended you in any way... tough shit.

Bush if you ever end up with a copy of this in front of you, know this: I DO NOT WANT TO HARM YOU!... I just think your a jackass. I think you should be impeached and spend the rest of your days in a three, by three, by three condo in Cuba for your crimes against our country, and humanity as a whole. If I have offended you George W. Bush... TOUGH SHIT! If you want me, come and get me... jackass.
