Mexico bans imports of U.S. beef based on fears of Mad Cow disease
I believe this is LBN. It's a report of a new country imposing a ban. Apologoes if it should be included in the orginal thread.

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 24 — Mexico halted imports of U.S. beef over fears of mad cow disease, and said it would maintain the ban until Mexican inspectors can determine whether the meat is safe, the government said Wednesday.

''This is a precautionary measure, in which Mexico is saying 'stop everything' and we'll study the situation,'' Trujillo said.

US beef imports banned in BSE alert

A single Holstein on a Washington state farm has tested positive for mad cow disease, marking the disease's first appearance in the United States and setting off a chain reaction of countries banning US imports of beef.

The Bush administration assured Americans their food is safe.

But the impact overseas was immediate with several nations, including Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Taiwan, halting imports.

4. BushCo thinks jawboning will cure the problem.
Don't DO anything. Just tell people that everything is being done.

And it's safe. The beef is safe. Safe as the air in lower Manhattan.

5. Locked out of cattle markets
I tried to get several clients in to feeder cattle options but the exchange (CME) would not accept them at any price. The feeder cattle market lock limited down almost instantly, and will probably do so for the next few trading days. Just how bad is it? Have you ever seen a Mexican cow?
