Wolfowitz broke rules, panel says
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - A special panel has found that World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz broke bank rules in arranging a pay package and promotion for his girlfriend, a person familiar with the report said Monday.

Wolfowitz was presented with the findings by the special bank panel investigating his handling of the 2005 promotion and pay raise of bank employee Shaha Riza.

The report was not made public, but the person familiar with its findings confirmed that violations were cited but did not provide any details. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the report has not yet been released.

Wolfowitz' attorney, Robert Bennett (news, bio, voting record), said his client was being given 48 hours to respond, which he called "unreasonable and unfair," and said they had requested to have until next Monday.

2. If he is interested in
telling the truth, then why should it take more than 2 days to get his act together. I would suggest the same treatment for him as for any of us who got caught doing this type of thing: "Sir, your final check is in the office...our lawyers will be contacting you. Please leave the premises immediately."

3. Wolfie knows he broke the rules, so why do we need a panel to tell him what he already knows?
This is nothing more than window dressing by the World Bank to fool people into thinking that they are going to do something to Wolfie, like fire his sorry neocon war criminal ass.

on the bright side, minimum wages have gone up, so Wolfie can still feed himself wearing a paper hat

i thought the GOP was trying to get PORK out of the government? so why was he porking her? is that a family value, because if it is i would find it a lot easier to be a republican

another bright note for the neo-cons.... they finally got caught with a GIRL !

6. Something in this world is really f....d up
When the scumbag was cheerleading for the Iraq War which killed countless thousands of people - that was totally ok. He is literary soaked in blood of innocent people. And now he is guilty for helping his girlfriend to a comfy position.

Am I the only one to see this hypocrisy?

7. World Bank panel finds Wolfowitz broke rules
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A World Bank panel has found that bank President Paul Wolfowitz's handling of a promotion and pay increase for his companion represented a conflict of interest and broke rules, but made no recommendation on how he should be reprimanded, board sources said on Monday.

The former U.S. deputy defense secretary, a key architect of the Iraq war, has been given several days to respond to the findings of the panel involving a lucrative deal for his companion, Shaha Riza, a World Bank Middle East expert.

One source close to the World Bank board said the panel found Wolfowitz's actions amounted to conflict of interest, while another source said the panel found he broke internal rules by personally directing Riza's transfer to the State Department with a promotion and salary increase.

<snip>

A senior bank official repeated that Wolfowitz would not resign over the controversy, which he has said is part of a smear campaign designed to discredit his leadership and undermine his anti-corruption campaign.

As Wolfowitz started a critical week, one of his top aides, Kevin Kellems, resigned early on Monday, saying the turmoil at the bank over its current leadership has made it difficult for him to do his job.

18. why won't he leave?
Anyone else would have resigned by now. It's clear he's not wanted. Like Gonzales, it seems as if once placed into the desired position of power, these neo-cons can't face relinquishing their march to glory...

Looks like you will have time to "visit" the Hague for your actions.

Good to see you have a Scott McCellen or Tony Snow working for your too.

<A senior bank official repeated that Wolfowitz would not resign over the controversy, which he has said is
part of a smear campaign designed to discredit his leadership and undermine his anti-corruption campaign.>

But I am sure "the rats" will stay loyal to you.

<Kellems, who served as an advisor to Wolfowitz at the Pentagon from 2002, told Reuters he was leaving to pursue
other opportunities.>

Or maybe not.

12. Have there been any repercussions for the girlfriend?
How about a demotion and being forced to repay her outrageous salary, for a start?

17. In my opinion, none of the 1000 or so
people in her pay range at the World Bank earn it.

But that's just me.

And, of course, that's a few pay grades from the top.

As for repercussions, it would be interesting to see what would happen if Wolfie is ousted. She'd presumably return to the WB. It would be very interesting how they'd treat her after refusing to let Wolfowicz recuse himself, esp. since it was the ethics board itself that said she needed to get a raise and/or a promotion.

White House: World Bank can be effective with Wolfowitz

1 hour, 9 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said on Tuesday the
World Bank could continue to be effective with embattled World
Bank President Paul Wolfowitz in charge.

"We believe that the World Bank can continue to be an effective
development institution with Paul Wolfowitz as president," White
House spokesman Tony Fratto said.

Wolfowitz is embroiled in a scandal over a salary agreement for
his companion, who also works at the World Bank. Board sources
said on Monday a World Bank panel had found his handling of the
promotion and pay increase for his companion represented a
conflict of interest and broke rules.

-snip-

The White House said it continued to support Wolfowitz, but
spokesman Tony Snow would not comment further.

20. Difference between Ethics and Morals
the World Bank is IMMORAL! One of if not the BIGGEST CONTRIBUTOR of INCREASING POVERTY IN THE WORLD!
Wolfowitz was not ethical within their group, however, the whole group is IMMORAL!

DOWN WITH ALL OF THEM!
