Recall reversed on impeachment plate
Edited on Mon May-07-07 05:39 PM by Tempest
Source: Rapid City Journal

A Rapid City woman will not have to turn in her anti-George Bush license plate after all, a state official announced today.

Paul Kinsman, secretary of the state Department of Revenue and Regulation, said officials with the Division of Motor Vehicles n which is within the revenue department - will not recall the “MPEACHW” personalized license plate that Heather Morijah has on her 2005 Toyota Prius.

The reason for the reversal is simple.

The DMV was swamped with calls complaining about vanity plates and the reason for revoking Morijah's was because one person complained. The state would have had to revoke thousands of vanity plates or face a lawsuit.

9. And Hillmer. I expect she's a "loyal Bushie" who was all too willing ...
... to yank that plate.

4. Newspaper tried to find out who complained about the plate
They wouldn't reveal the name. One lucky lady.

Too bad it didn't go to court then they would had to reveal her identity.

6. Score 1 for free speech, but it's amazing that it required public outcry.
We need public outcry about everything nowadays. And non-stop phone ringing to people in a position to do something about it.

27. Yeah, eh? It's not like "people in a position" would have the IQ it takes
to just think about all the possible consequences of their own decisions or actions before they decide on or act...

No. They probably R not paid enough to do that (to just think) by themselves...

21. It is a two edged sword
Banning or allowing vanity plates can go both ways.

13. last year i had a hugh sign on my house , i have a porch on top of my house
( a beach property , reversed living for views) the house is 3 stories so i put huge sings on my top decks that could be seen by all cars on the island i live..one said ..* lied us to war..the other said * is a killer and i had red paint dripping like blood...

now i made the signs from king size sheets..

many people would go by and honk..or give thumbs up when honking..

one day i had a man come to my house and he was viloent..he scared me..but police chief lived across the street ..and is a friend..i called him and he told me next time if the guy came to carry my cell and call his cell..

so then after the signs were up all summer..a city counsel guy came and told me i had to remove the signs..that someone found an obsolete law ..and i had to remove the signs..

he told me i had 15 days to remove them..

well i told him.there were many businesses that had signs all along the road, placed where my signs were placed on my home...so i told him..if i have to remove my signs..every business had to remove their signs..i said.. no exception..or i would file a lawsuit.

and then i told him to tell the complainer..i had plenty of $$ and i would follow the law and have professional signs made to specs..and i would put them on the second floor decks as permitted by law..

and i said..oh by the way..when people have parties and put signs up..they must tell those people to take the signs down as well...and i would keep records who had signs up..

i was polite but firm..

i then had professional signs made to conform to the law..i will put them up this summer..all summer..

oh and by the way..my signs were photographed and put in all the state newspapers...before i had to remove them..

in a very republican area..i got many notes at my door and mailbox thanking me for the signs...

but i won't budge now..no business will have a sign where i can't have a sign..

we must speak up for our rights..all of us..no one will shut me up..without a fight..a damn loud and hard fight!!

i will not be bullied..

and i applaud everyone who spoke up for that woman's right to have her license plate..

we should never allow our voices to be silenced!!

ever...

and as for the asshole who came on my property screaming and with his veins bulging..wanting to attack me..i stood my ground and told him to get the fuck off my property..all 5'2" of me..i went right back into his face..and told him i would have him arrested..well mr..if you come near my property again..the chief is awaiting you..and i will press charges and you will go to jail for a very long time!
I am not kidding!

fly

MPEACH plate won’t be recalled by DMV - By Kevin Woster, Journal staff

and another source:
State won't recall Rapid City woman’s license plate

Apparently the news even made it to Georgia via UPI.
Officials to allow 'MPEACHW' license plate

There's always going to be someone who could and possibly will take offense over something. If I recall correctly NY's rule that would get someone a recall is simply no obscenities... but then again that could be rather subjective since many of us DUers consider anything to do with this admin or the neo-CONs a far worse obscenity then those I'm pretty sure are not allowed. ;)
