Iran: Public employees to get 'Islamic uniforms'
Source: Adn Kronos

Tehran, 7 May (AKI) - Female public employees in Iran will soon have to wear a uniform abiding by new Islamic dress code rules. The measure, under which all female employees will be given two uniforms, is part of a new "moralisation" campaign that kicked off last month under which Iranians who do not abide by Islamic dress rules can be jailed, said Fereshteh Sasani, a top official at the office for women's affairs of the presidency. Sasani said the measure will cost Iran the equivalent of two million euros.

The government has also ordered all public institutions to abolish open space offices as they do not guarantee an effective separation from female and male employees.

4. Good old government-imposed religion. Just like Republicans want here.
It's hard to believe the majority of Iranians voted for these nut jobs, but if that's the government they want to live under, whatcha gonna do? God knows invading a country filled with religious nut-jobs would be an even bigger mess than taking out a tin-pot dictator like Saddam.

5. All jews wear stars, everyone else, continue as you are.
It's going to get worse for those women.

And patriarchial societys tend to be the most severe on people who don't conform. Expect government sanctioned killings in the streets.

Gays NEVER survive in patriarchial societys, but they were already being killed in iran. Now they'll probably die a more brutal death and forgo the mock trails.

6. Only right if men given uniforms, too
Edited on Mon May-07-07 05:53 PM by ayeshahaqqiqa
Both men and women are to dress modestly, and men are not to wear gold or silk--in other words, no flashy display of wealth.

Realize that at the time of the revolution in Iran in 1979, women voluntarily donned Islamic dress--to protest the Shah, who had actively worked to ban it. I don't think those ladies thought things would become so restrictive. Personally, I am for allowing women the right to decide what to wear in public.

Edited to add: Since Muslims are not to have a priest class they have to obey, it is up to each Muslim to interpret the Qur'an, especially on matters such as dress. But this is a Sufi talking, and Sufis are persecuted in Iran.

8. Iran's President: 'I Will Stop Christianity in This Country'
An Iranian convert to Christianity was kidnapped last week from his home in northeastern Iran and stabbed to death, his bleeding body thrown in front of his home a few hours later. Ghorban Tori, 50, was pastoring an independent house church of convert Christians in Gonbad-e-Kavus, a town just east of the Caspian Sea along the Turkmenistan border.

Within hours of the November 22 murder, local secret police arrived at the martyred pastor's home, searching for Bibles and other banned Christian books in the Farsi language. By the end of the following day, the secret police had also raided the houses of all other known Christian believers in the city.

According to one informed Iranian source, during the past eight days representatives of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) have arrested and severely tortured 10 other Christians in several cities, including Tehran. All the detainees have since been released.

One of the arrested Christians was reportedly interrogated about his involvement in relief work after Iran's deadly Bam earthquake in December 2003. Another working with a legal organization defending human rights was accused of using it as a "cover" for church activities.
